Developers Want To Build On Miami Beach Municipal Parking Lots

Two developers have responded to a Miami Beach Request For Proposals that put city-owned surface parking lots in play.

Michael Simkins and Robert Finvarb want to build a hotel on what is currently a 24-space lot in the 900 block of Washington Avenue, along with an adjacent privately-owned property. The project would be designed by Perkins+Will, and include 145 hotel rooms, 247 parking spaces (including 121 municipal spaces), and 17,354 square feet of ground floor retail.

In mid-Beach, Terranova Corp. wants to build a parking garage behind their 41st Street headquarters, which would be connected by a bridge. A city-owned lot would be combined with Teranova land for a garage with up to 188 spaces, including 120 available to the public.

Update: More recent rendering of 930 Washington added.

I live around this block. That BoA is a dump. The building itself is old and doesn’t fit in with the surroundings. This is a much better improvememnt.

If I am correct the lot they are talking about is very small, in order to build this hotel they would have to destroy the current Bank of America on the same block, is that also owned by the city?

Seems like the City wants it both ways. On the one hand it wants to reduce traffic congestion, on the other, it wants to build hundreds of parking spaces. Can’t have it both ways.
