First Emirates Plane Lands At FLL After Nearly 16 Hour Flight

Emirates first flight from Dubai to Fort Lauderdale has landed.

The inaugural flight took 15 hours and 36 minutes, according to Flightaware. The routing passed over Iran and through Russia, avoiding a shorter but more dangerous route through Ukrainian airspace.

As a comparison, the daily Doha-Miami flight yesterday took 15 hours and 57 minutes.

In an interview with Airways Magazine, an Emirates executive spoke of three advantages that FLL has over MIA: connectivity with Jetblue, position of the airport between Miami and West Palm Beach, and overall convenience of the airport. An A380 would not be possible at FLL though, he said.

Should’ve been Miami.

Why? FLL has more affordable landing fees and the airport is close to most of the large marinas hosting mega yachts and it is right next door to Port Everglades.

Wow, seems dangerous that they can open those windows outside of an emergency.

¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Its not. some models have them to help is inspections, emergencies, signaling, etc. And mid-flight it would never be an issue, the pressure would prevent them from opening even if you wanted to.

Exactly, the cabin is pressurized and the wind speed would make it impossible to open it mid flight.

Oh come on…
The reason they are landing in FLL is all the concessions they are getting from FLL airport. Including discounted landing/take off fees.

Or they fact that they codeshare with Jet Blue and can thus pull passengers from other cities, especially those in the Caribbean…

Flying over Iran and Russia ” to avoid a shorter but MORE dangerous route through Ukraine airspace”
That means that the route is also dangerous but less….( 😉
Ukraine…. is that the country where Russian Federation on March 2014 ate a big chunk called Crimea and our president draw the RED LINE?
