Intense Labor Shortage As Construction Starts Up 83 Percent In July

Contractors in Miami are having a difficult time finding construction workers, according to the DBR.

Pay is increasing is a result. One local contractor, Skanska USA, is trying to recruit workers through local pastors.

Statistics from Dodge Data & Analytics showed that groundbreakings in the Miami area increased to $576 million in July, up 83 percent from last year. In downtown Miami alone, there are a reported 7,499 condo units under construction.

Overall, Florida added 26,400 construction jobs in the past year – up 6 percent, ranking second behind only California.

Temporary workers can be imported from other states if pay is right.. Particularly during Winter period.
