Trader Joe’s In South Beach Is Now Under Construction

The Alton Road property that will become home to the first Trader Joe’s in Miami Beach has been fenced off, with foundation work now underway.

The five-story project is known as 17 West, and also includes 36 residential units and 200 parking spaces.

City records show that a construction permit and underground utility permit are pending. The developer has also executed an agreement with the city to vacate an alley that bisects the property.

Completion is scheduled for 2018.

All I can say is about time. Now if we can get to open another one in Downtown or Brickell.

So no more public Access to Alton court? Sad. We can’t lose public streets and alleys like this.

I hope they don’t close the street.

Maybe someone can clarify. Based upon renderings in the previous story on this site, it appears the building will connect over the alley, preserving public access.

I’m confused. But if you look at the artist rendition assuming it’s at the corner of West and 17th a break in the building appears just about where the alley would be.

What corner is the artists rendition focused on (Alton & 17th) or (West & 17th)?

So then more buildings must come down south of the now active construction site.
