$1.6B MIA Terminal Projects To Be Advertised Within Months

Two major terminal projects at MIA are moving forward, according to Miami Today.

A design-build package for the $754 million South Terminal expansion will be advertised to bidders in January, Miami-Dade’s Aviation Director Ralph Cutié said.

In addition, a redesign of the $863 million Central Terminal renovation will be advertised within months.

A design for a rebuild of the highly congested regional gate area at the North Terminal is expected to be finalized by early to mid next year. The North Terminal is primarily used by American Airlines.

Construction is also expected to begin next year on a new park and ride facility.

The South Terminal expansion is planned in this area:

MIA is stuck in the 70’s…the entire airport needs a complete renovation.

Miami has a lot of great things and infrastructure. The airport is definitely NOT one of them. It really sucks

Totally agree, I was in airport this weekend and some parts are really dated and need to be brought to look like the other modern sections.

Let’s just hope these contracts don’t go to friends and that we get some legitimate developers in here. The MIA airport is awful and hopefully addressing the traffic is part of this. It’s the only airport I’ve been to that doesn’t have traffic control cops at arrival and departure pickups and drop offs.

Don’t worry. It’ll be another beaut by Arquitectonica that will age far quicker and worse.

For such a major city in the world, our airport is really embarrassing. Even FLL managed to overhaul 3 terminals and start construction on the 5th one before MIA could redo flooring in one of the concourses.

Honestly FTL airport is far nicer than Miami

Construction could start as early as 15 years from now. Unless they need to reprice again in 10 years then need to get more money.

The north (not including the regional gate at D60) and south terminals are nice now. The central terminal is a disaster. So assuming they upgrade it like they did north and south, and with the hotel, this will be a fairly decent airport.
The pickup area downstairs desperately needs an upgrade. But that will be impossible.

Agree. D is very nice actually, which is the biggest concourse. C, H, E, need a revamp, J is also very nice.

Sure they are. Suuuuuuure.

The County should expect to spend 10x on this and they will take 10x longer since nobody in the County seems to have any knowledge of construction and allows these projects to balloon in size very quickly.

I see MIA getting a lot of hate. I like the American terminal, easy and nice lounge to get in and out of town. Metrorail to brickell is a plus. Is it perfect, far from it, but have you been to other airports around the country?

Who is the architect for the proposed redesign?

Hope it does not turn into a Laguardia nightmare (10Yrs+ and nowhere near finished at least nyc has 3 airports). The newly renovated areas for Delta at LGA look and feel cold AF and its already old design since it was done so long ago… Fixing the airport in smaller portions is way safer. The signature bridge is a good example of what to expect if they ever go for a full renovation. That bridge will be done around 2030. By that time the design will already be old and people beyond tired of it.

As someone who travels for work, I can say with certainty that MIA International needs to step up its game. It is embarrassing for the city to have so many great things happening in development pretty much everywhere in the metro area and the Airport is a dump. Fix this now!!
