1,200 Orchids To Be Placed Throughout Miami Beach Parks
Miami Beach officials have begun placing 1,200 Phalaenopsis Orchids on trees throughout the city’s park system.
The plants were donated by Pine Ridge Orchids after commissioner Joy Malakoff inquired about the possibility of adding them.
Malakoff was inspired by Fairchild Tropical Garden’s Million Orchid Project, which aims to reestablish the masses of native orchids that were once abundant throughout the Miami area before European settlers arrived.
The Phalaenopsis Orchid is not native to the area, according to Wikipedia.
