296 Apartments Planned At Edgewater’s Unity Property

An apartment building is in the planning stages for Edgewater.

Mill Creek Residential has submitted a replat of the Unity on the Bay church property in Edgewater to both the city and county.

According to the documents, 296 rental apartments are planned on a portion of the property. The church building appears to be preserved.

Mill Creek representatives met with city officials earlier this year about developing the property, calling it Modera Biscayne Bay in a meeting.

This area sure could use two things.

1) Reliable, mass-transit, preferably rail on dedicated ROW.
2) Bike infrastructure so residents can safely ride to/from the area.

And bikers could use one thing ( specially in Brickell Avenue ) respect the redlights if you want to be considered with cars drivers !

All those bikers don’t care When the red light are on !!!! And I feel sorry when some of them is hit by a drunk low life, BUT WHEN THEY DONT STOP ON THE RED LIGH, they don’t deserve to have the right to use a bike!!!!!

For those ciclists that don’t respect the rules and run red lights …. put them in that ugly prison on 8 street and Brickell Bay Drive named The Four Ambassadors, that’s a jail, isn’t it?

I thought MyBrickell and Centro were jails by the ugly way the windows are arranged with no order.

A lot of those bikers that don’t respect red lights in Brickell are policemen on their day off , going recklessly on their bicycles, not respecting the street stop signs or redlights

That’s one thing that drivers should actually like because it helps move traffic along instead of having to wait on a bicyclist start up at a light. That’s why it’s actually legal to treat red lights as stop signs (and stop signs as yellow lights) in some states like Ohio.

Walk, this area is a walker’s paradise — daily errands do not require a car.

How about a few more traffic lights in Biscayne Blvd?

I hope they include a pedestrian paseo connecting the dead end 21st street north to 22nd street. I believe this property is wide enough that Miami 21 will require it. Additionally, as part of the Baywalk, it may be a long time until Biscayne 21 Condo creates its portion of the Baywalk.

This is a nice project.. taking an seldom used parking lot, and developing luxury apartments.. but I don’t know about keeping that old church building.

I don’t think it’s the entire church buildings thst will be preserved just the small standalone structure closer to 22nd Street.

It’s just the parking lot. The historic mansion and guesthouse are safe.

What an opportunity to re-purpose the church building and pick up on it’s mid-century architecture to develop the site. Only takes a little bit of vision.

It looks like they’re doing upgrades on North Bayshore Drive to 22nd Street. With that, I hope the east portion is used as open space for Baywalk, or sold to Biscayne 21 to square off their block and potentially/eventually sell for redevelopment.

Biscayne 21 already owns a surface parking lot and tennis courts on the north side of their property.
Getting enough condo owners to agree to sell is likely a bigger impediment than land area for redevelopment.

If OKO can do it, it’s possible.

Unity has been a good neighbor, hope the church stays.
