44-Story Lofty Brickell Groundbreaking Could Be Coming In Days

A groundbreaking ceremony for the 44-story Lofty Brickell tower could be just days away, according to a filing yesterday with the city.

The Special Events permit was filed on January 25, records show.

The permit lists Lofty Groundbreaking, with a date of January 31.

Earlier this month, the developers told the Herald that construction would get underway in February.

Permitting for full construction has been underway since October, and demolition at the site has been completed.

The $300 million tower is only the first phase planned by the developer.

Eventually, additional housing towers are planned on property owned by the developer adjacent to the Lofty site, the Herald reported.

As of earlier this month, a total of 320 of 362 condos at Lofty (or 88% of units) have been sold, the developer told the paper.

Newgard is the developer, with Arquitectonica the architect.

Get those shovels ready…and connect the riverwalk!!

Stavi

A connected river walk with cool restaurants and bars would be one the best things this city can do, along with an extended metro mover of course

stop it with the metro mover extension bs. That people mover is 3rd world

Which is why it needs to be upgraded with longer and more cars, which will mean bigger stations…and a fare., which will all of a sudden change their minds.

..the fare thing, also why few posters here champion Metrorail. This Metromover fetish is children looking for a free ride to their play times. Working adults want Metrorail expansion.

Miami Winning

Agree, with this breaking ground, as well as integral public connections on both the Riverside and Brickell sides of I95 around Jose Marti Park; new underdeck planning, Chetrit River District in Brickell; the upcoming Wharf development; Aston Martin building; and new Hyatt and One River Point in Downtown, and help from the City of Miami and Miami-Date County—–we can see the Miami River Greenway /Riverfront be completed in the next two years.

Are you serious? In the next 2 years, the Hyatt likely won’t have even started yet. The riverwalk behind these properties isn’t completed until the development itself is completed.

It took less than 2 years to build the Empire State building and Miami has the same level of momentum and resources beneath its wings.

Not new, but I have seen Brickell completely transform in 5 years, and the 5 before.

“As long as big money continues to flow into Miami the Brickell neighborhood and its skyline will continue to evolve. Long-time Brickell residents can only marvel at how much the area continues to change, and we likely haven’t seen anything yet.”

The government wasn’t involved in the construction of the ESB, nor bait and switch artist Arquitectonica.

What kind of HVAC system, fire suppression system, security system, and wifi was the Empire State Building originally built with? Asking for my zumba instructor.

True.
The Miami River Greenway was designed about 20 years ago to connect directly to the waterfront organically where possible, and to go around private land owners properties if that property owner wanted unimpeded waterfront access (think of boatyards, fisherman, etc).

As the real estate becomes more valuable little two story shacks will inevitably find a higher and better use by selling or redeveloping that property. Any modification to existing riverfront land requires the landowner to open up their riverfront and put in a 50ft setback.

This very sensible balance between private property ownership rights, and having a cohesive riverfront won national awards. It has been evolving according to plan.

I agree with Stavi. Miami needs to extend metro mover. It’s more than urgent now.

Anonymous

I disagree. MetroRAIl needs to be extended far more urgently than Metromover. Metrorail out to Miami Beach and Doral, further down US1, and up US1. The free hipster shuttle to “cool restaurants and bars” can wait. Look beyond your own noses. Far more urgent transit needs exist.

Downvotes from hipsters looking for a free ride to selfie restaurants and craft beer events. I hope some Metromover crackhead slices off their manbuns and steals their man bags. F ’em.

Jose Marti Park Ferry Stop 2024

It would be a huge success if the City of Miami, City of Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, and Florida Department of Transportation collaborate on a ferry stop at Jose Martí Park, leading to a modern timeless large scale monument. This would address numerous pressing issues of the times:

1) transportation from mainland to Miami Beach with walkability to Brickell and downtown (construction of the station can be ready in few months rather than 20+ years)
2) modern riverfront space in Miami River Greenway / Riverfront
3) spawn housing in metro stop areas
4) activate businesses and economy
5) reduce traffic on the roads

If we are building an entire metro line for the World Cup, at least have a ferry stop setup to bring world travelers to Miami Beach. More stops can follow once it becomes a huge success.

I love your idea. Miami need to diversify its transportation and take advantage of water vehicles to transport people and reduce cars on the streets.
A ferry stop would be extremely convenient and it has the added bonus that can be completed in less than a year. Hopefully the community leaders have the vision to put this idea into reality and therefore improve our quality of life and increased the value of our community.

Thanks Jesus. We have good ideas but we have other professional roles and in meetings all day serving clients.

Please help share these ideas with as many people possible, like the Jose Martí ferry stop and landmark redesign, if we tell one or two people, the word will reverberate to our leaders. Let’s keep coming up with ideas because not all leaders have the creative vision that some of us posses on this board.

Pete Buttigieg Can Help Build a Ferry

Ask Pete Buttigieg! I bet the federal secretary of transportation would support this. He should be monitoring Miami. The federal gov just passed an infrastructure bill. The cost for this ferry stop would be pennies compared the overall amount being credited to states across the country.

Help!!!

I wish the Florida legislature or federal government helped. The main entrance to I95 in Brickell is a mess. There are all these random “wrong way” signs that went up next to the entrance of I95 the major highway here…. It’s not the wrong way it’s the main entrance. Every day I way up and someone puts a sign up that makes no sense. Its the entrance to the highway. The leadership is trying their best to keep up with the growth but there’s a huge disconnect. It’s growing so much in Miami and the leaders are doing their best but there is a clear disconnect . We need help!!!!

We could actually rival Chicago River

Ty

It’s a lofty goal, but we need better architecture for the buildings on the river to rival Chicago.

Anonymous

Miami will have a better and newer riverfront than Chica-Go. The Miami River will have better architecture plus yachts and people can actually kayak in it.

Anon

Lets just start with connecting the riverwalk path…..if we can get that done in the next 20 years I’ll consider it a win.

anon

We may have a better boardwalk but they have way prettier bridges and more versatile architecture. just depends what you value more.
