80-Story Brickell City Centre Supertall Resubmitted To FAA

Swire Properties has once again filed plans with the Federal Aviation Administration to build a supertall tower at Brickell City Centre.

According to plans filed March 29, the 80-story One Brickell City Centre tower will rise 1,040 feet above ground, or 1,049 feet above sea level.

It is nearly five years since Swire Properties first applied for approval to build a supertall at 700 Brickell Avenue. The height in the new application is identical to a plan submitted for the site in October 2013.

Approval of the first application was granted in June 2015, after about 20 months of review. An extension was granted in late 2016, and expires in June 2018 if construction does not commence by then.

Swire build this bad boy already!!! Can’t wait…

Start Construction already! Don’t wait til June!

Beautiful tower. Hope they don’t grant another five year extension, but perhaps a year in order to get this project moving.

Can’t even begin to imagine what all these projects will do to the area traffic though. Absolutely criminal that no infrastructure plans have been developed.

Blame the politicians, not the developers.

Anonymous

Blame the way the city was built with no central core, oversupply of parking, encouragement for urban sprawl and subsidizing from car companies in the 50’s to build suburbia

Miami1

What are talking about, it’s Brickell, you have a Metrorail station and a Metromover station right on the doorstep of the tower!!! Don’t like traffic, walk or better yet use the mass transit options…

Gringo

Our rent a unit from me!!!

That’s what I do.
People who live in Brickell know how to deal with it without bitching.

At least demolish that disgusting grey parking lot from the 50’s regardless when you start building this please…

Yet Another Anonymous

In other words, they are not planning on starting by June.

Anyone else think it odd that FAA requires reapproval of a height identical to what they’ve already approved? Your government at work, I guess.

suomynona

No. You shouldn’t have an indefinite approval. The approval process changes over time, so if you don’t start construction within a reasonable amount of time, you should be re-subject to the new approval standards/process.

You can argue that an approval should be valid for more than 3 years (including the extension) – and I’d agree – but that’s a different conversation.

These architects need to do a road trip to London Hong Kong Shanghai…Hell anywhere for inspiration. Yet another big shoe box. Good grief build something iconic already.

Wow….a supertall and that’s the design…..holy boring.

Jesus

Any supertall buildings that are currently being built that you do not find boring?

Anonymous

Short sighted. Don’t build just because it’s 1000 feet.

Anonymous

Nothing to write home to mom about. Calatrava it’s not. http://bit.ly/2GvHeuz It’s not iconic and could be anywhere. But it is tall and that makes it worthy enough.

Anonymous

I hope they change the design

marc

Wonder if the design has been tweaked at all.

Jesus

Man, I hate having to hurry up and wait for this amazing tower to go up. At this point, I think another company will make the first 1000′ building.

Anonymous

Well, I guess it beats them re-filing a petition for a shorter height.

Anonymous

let’s reach for 90

Anonymous

add the climate ribbon wrapping around the building

A freaking box.

you want a circle?

Cuento,cuento,cuento y más cuentos.

Sweet, Sweet
What a tease…
Gorgeous building, amazing height. I want to see it soon!!!!

Anonymous

Hope they can make it 1,250 like the empire state building

barbara

That’s ridiculous height for a building. The city doesn’t support new buildings with sewers and roads. When it rains the water is a foot deep and there is garbage everywhere and they want to build more.

Anonymous

What are you talking about? A huge new sewer was just built for Brickell.

Anonymous

You obviously don’t watch the news of the garage flooding in Brickell..during a hurricane or when it rains the water is flooding everywhere..Brickell city Centre is not safe…the building construction has a nice concept but poorly made and is looking old already….that place is so congested and doesn’t look safe at all…the crosswalk looks like a kid can just jump off on to moving traffic….

Anonymous

Barbara, clearly you can’t be serious (or educated on the matter that you are posting about).
There was a multi-year capital improvement project in the Brickell neighbohood that was only completed a year or so ago. Brickell was torn up as they improved water treatment, pumping stations, and sewer.
Water a foot deep? In Brickell? Only during a hurricane, and only for hours after the event.

Anonymous

Silly remark. We live in Rise at Brickell City center and 0 outages when the hurricane hit us. No issues with water nor garbage.
