90-Story Dolce & Gabbana Tower Announced For Miami

Plans have been officially announced for a 90-story Dolce & Gabbana-designed tower at 888 Brickell, according to CNN.

The tower will be built at a supertall height of 1,049 feet – the maximum allowed by the FAA in Miami.

There will be 259 condos, along with a 5-star hotel, CNN said.

Restaurants and bars are also planned in the building, along with significant amenities.

According to an October 2022 filing with county planners, 888 Brickell is planned to include:

  • 259 residential units
  • 52,144 square feet of health/fitness
  • 38,727 square feet of food and beverage space
  • approximately 273 parking spaces

Studio Sofield was listed on that filing as the design architect for the building, with ODP the architect of record.

In December 2022, the FAA issued approval for the tower to be built at a height of 1,042 feet above ground, or 1,049 feet above sea level.

The CNN report said that interior design will be by Dolce & Gabbana founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, with units being delivered completely finished, furnished, and outfitted – including bathrobes and books on shelves.

Prices will range from $3.5 million to $35 million, with delivery in 2027.

JDS is the developer.

I’m shocked out how many seven figure plus condos are being built here. Where are all these super wealthy people coming from? What about those not making seven figures a year? My wife and I make mid six figures combined and the thought of spending 10k plus a month on housing seems insane. Even those making a good living are going to be priced out soon if every condo, restaurant, and retail store is geared towards the 1%.

They are international and no one actually lives in these residences. They are just banks, essentially.

Yes, just like billionaires row in New York City, all these super tall towers (Waldorf Astoria, and this one) will be mostly empty. It’s a place where the super rich park their money.

Not true, that’s not how it works. People upgrade to these new homes, and their older homes go to the next in people in line. It’s a process.

Huh? These are 2nd and 3rd homes they’re buying here. Buying here doesn’t dictate that they’re selling another home.

When you look at the number of units, it really is not that many. Think about a new ‘golf course’ home way out in the suburbs back in the 90s that used to have 500+ homes. We’re out of land for new golf course communities, so we need to build up, and there is tons of demand for these sorts of homes from people who wish to use them, too.

Even if true! They still make sure your streets and sidewalks don’t turn into piss – because the city of Miami surely isn’t doing anything

This is an issue nationwide, though to a lesser extent. An unusually large amount of new construction these days is luxury, with much of the remainder being workforce rental units.

But people here would still rather have an empty tower than a riverfront park.

Don’t be surprised; there are reasonably priced buildings going up all over Miami. Instead of complaining about expensive buildings, we should focus on improving the street and pedestrian experience and improving be basic block-like structures that often look too cheap. This is a great opportunity to bring in better architecture and make Miami even more attractive, especially in Brickell. Let’s aim to turn this city into a top-notch destination with really tall buildings in the center where everyone can see and visit.

In order to make those changes happen luxury towers aren’t enough. Especially if most the people buying them don’t live here. We need a changing of the guard in govt. Get people in power that actual care about us and not just themselves, their friends, and family.

The who? People who work at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s can not afford to live in Brickell or Park West. I suppose you would like a servile class to commute for hours just for your convenience. Do you think these workers have black or red boarding passes or elite status+ anywhere in Miami? Their reality of life is totally different from ours. It was never intended for Miami to become a bubble or enclave of rich people 🤦🏼‍♂️

Nonrad

Why did they immigrate here? To access better job opportunities. It might be more beneficial to focus on increasing their pay with employers that provide better benefits, like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, rather than being concerned about a 15-minute longer commute. You think you speak for the masses but your virtue signaling isn’t helping.

They don’t have to take those jobs. Construction workers in Dubai are mostly from Bangladesh, Philippines, India and Pakistan but their alternative is abject poverty with no job. They are given housing and some food rations plus salary. Accommodations are not Ritz Carlton quality but it’s a place to sleep and shower. Sure, they share the room with others but they are learning a trade as well. I went out with a Pakistani construction worker in Dubai so I know it’s not that bad. His contract expired a year ago and is back in Lahore now desperate to go back to Dubai.

Sorry to disagree. It might not be perfect but Dubai has wonderful, striking architecture, a Metro line that goes most everywhere you want to go, Exquisite gathering places with art, entertainment, shopping, dining, museums, opera etc, all without seeing a single parking lot; a world-class international airport and to top it off one of the safest cities in the world. This is what happens when you provide generous zoning to one side of the highway/train tracks and leave the other side desperate.

Get In While You Can

There are NO train tracks in Brickell. We have an above-ground metro system that seamlessly integrates pedestrian activity on all sides, making it one of Brickell’s unique advantages over other parts of Miami-Dade and Florida. Additionally, the zoning has changed, allowing for increased development on the west side. With new codes and regulations, you can expect to see Brickell prosper and achieve a unified look and vibe in just a few years. Currently, the west side offers a more local and chill experience, so make the most of it while it lasts!

The whole point of the post is that the zoning department hasnt spread out zoning. Youre that point by saying only brickell has that way of life. The Miami-Dade County Home Rule Charter grants to the County the power to carry on a central metropolitan government and to, among other things, provide for and operate rail and bus terminals and public transportation systems and prepare and enforce comprehensive plans for the development of the County. The Board adopted and accepted the Comprehensive Development Master Plan for Miami-Dade County (CDMP), which, among other goals, objectives, and policies, calls for the coordination of land uses and transportation facilities to: attract transit ridership, produce short trips, and minimize transfers; establish a more compact and efficient urban form within the Urban Development Boundary; and promote vertical and horizontal mixed-use development and redevelopment of properties along existing and planned transit corridors and designated urban centers, to provide for transit-oriented development. lol
