Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Moving To Miami: ‘I Love Miami’

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said on Instagram last week that he is planning to move from Seattle to Miami.

“I love Miami,” Bezos wrote.

According to Bloomberg, Bezos has purchased multiple properties on Indian Creek Island recently.

Bezos is said to have paid $79 million for one property on the island, after spending $68 million on the property next door, for a combined $147 million.

Bezos also might make additional purchases in the area, the report said.

Awesome. Now let’s hope he moves the headquarter and THAT would be a great news!!

Build Miami

I wish. They did suspend construction of the HQ in DC indefinitely. Miami would make sense as the center of the Americas, especially with Amazon trying to expand its operation and reach in Latin America. So Amazon should at least look at expanding its presence here. Lots of great office towers going up here too in Downtown and Brickell.

Anon

It’s possible but also keep in mind Bezos is no longer the CEO of Amazon, even if he remains on the board. I don’t know how likely it is he uproots Amazon’s operations at this stage of his career (not that likely, IMO). That being said he said in his statement that he will continue to be active with Blue Origin – so maybe there is a likelihood he looks into office space for that operation.

I doubt Bezos moves the primary or the secondary HQs from Seattle or DC. Miami would make a great regional HQ but the choice was made and Seattle and DC are the primary and secondary HQs as of today, respectively.

Maybe it will encourage more tech bros to live in Miami and in turn bring more business. Bezos alone isn’t very interesting unless he starts to help the community.

I’m not saying I’m some great volunteer or community activist. My point is, which a lot of people get based on the thumbs ups, is that this is more celebrity news than something for me to get excited about. Maybe he’s going to do a lot or maybe he’s coming here to retire and enjoy his life. Either one is great but only one will impact me.

Ignore them – they have no clue. Most of them on here succumb to the same influences they bash folks on social media for clinging to. It’s all about newslines and such. Not like they have a cadence for checking back on impact later. They just like the sugar rush of thinking headlines by themselves matter.

if I had Bezo’s money and brains, I would solve Miami’s traffic problems. Billions for metrorail and metromover expansion 💰 🚊

Truth Matters

Sorry
That won’t fix the problem. As long as the city keeps building for cars, it won’t matter. Even mass transit infrastructure was built to drive in and park. Senseless

As Miami-Dade grows and the city of Miami plus other cities such as Hialeah, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Doral, Sweetwater, and even Kendall densify, more lines and more frequency of service are going to be necessary in order for Miami-Dade and South FL to survive in the near future and beyond!

They should remove all the parking under the metro mover along Biscayne. The parking spots are so ugly.

Anonymous

Why do you think the parking is there and under I-95 is a homeless camp? Massive utilitarian flyovers are not desirable for a walkable urban environment.

Anon

The nicest areas in Miami have flyovers zipping around. NYC has them all along the west side highway by expensive real estate. They turned them into beautiful parks, like Brickell has been doing at the Underline.

Not EVERYONE thinks that traffic is a big problem. Billionaires and millionaires rarely ride the MetroRail.

Besides, there is too much Government meddling in Gov’t transportation. Notice what happened when President Obama killed the space exploration program in 2011?

Enter SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, et al.

Anonymous

99 % of us are not millionaires and billionaires and enjoy riding the MetroMover. Addressing a problem for the 99%, which doesn’t negatively impact the top 1%. Don’t see why anyone on here opposes civic improvements? Unless wait, could it be YOU are not from here and don’t want to see Miami thrive?

Totally I’d love to see him do an MWC style development on the western side of Brickell or Riverside just west of I95, so many knock down crumbling homes and under utilized waterfront land walking distance to the HQs in Brickell.

Anonymous

Another water-down disappointment of cigarette boxes on parking pedestals? I’d rather see Riverside revitalize incrementally, keeping and restoring the old legitimately historic buildings, and building new in between that isn’t ten floors of parking. You’ll need a Metrorail extension and countless other infrastructure improvements for that.

Stuccoside

Right now all Riverside is getting is stucco boxes.

Add a ferry loop etween the beach and mainland – transport problems solved across all economic strata.

Technically in the U.S but culturally, gastronomically, linguistically and vibe, a foreign country. Not even L.A. or NYC with all their huge immigrant population can make that claim.

The cuban 🇨🇺 community still dominates by far when it comes to not just Miami but Florida and its always gonna be that way. Cuba is 90 miles to the keys. Miami is always gonna be the capital of the cuban exile community. Even if people from other states come to Miami Cubans are still gonna dominate and run the city of Miami and State of FL
