Zoox To Begin Testing Self-Driving Cars In Miami

Another company has chosen Miami as one of its first cities to test self-driving cars.

Zoox, a subsidiary of Amazon, said yesterday that it will soon begin testing here.

The company won’t be deploying its custom-built vehicles at first, instead sending a fleet of retrofitted Toyota Highlanders.

The fleet will be deployed in a small area near the “business and entertainment district,” following a mapping mission. Safety drivers will be inside the vehicles during testing.

This is the first new city for Zoox since 2021. Other Zoox test cities include San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Seattle, with Austin now also being added.

Google’s Waymo began testing self driving cars in Miami in 2023. Ford’s Argo AI started even earlier in Miami, and began testing fully driverless cars without a backup driver here in 2022.

Of course….Those Amazon people do not know how to do anything.

But the commenters on The Next Miami, on the other hand, are innovators, creators, and game changers.
They can ride a bike, IF you allocate 2 feet on each side in a dedicated bike lane.
They can almost walk and chew gum at the same time, IF you give them a sidewalk with 4 feet on each side.
They can even get from one place to another, IF you buy them a MetroMover extension from their sofa to Wynwood.

Can’t be worse than a lot of our human drivers.

Especially in a city like Miami that easily has some of the worst drivers in the entire country.

I don’t think it will work in Miami which is probably the world’s capital of self-centered drivers

Self centered and downright awful. Smoother driving in Cancun than anything Miami offers. Our drivers are worse than some third world places

Cancun is not a “third world place”.
