Area Under Bridges Between Midtown & Design District Get New Lighting & Artwork

Walking from Midtown Miami to the Design District feels slightly safer at night thanks to newly installed lighting.

Several roads and sidewalks connecting the two areas are now lit up in red and blue. The roads that pass under the I-195 highway were formerly dark.

Better lighting also appears to have been put in place in the Miami Parking Authority lots that are under the bridge.

As part of the project, the tops of support pillars have been covered with plastic artwork showing scenes from cities around the world, including Paris, Dubai, Cape Town, Tokyo, and Rio de Janiero.

If we had more density, this could be a great place for an outdoor marketplace or farmer’s market

that helps alot but I still hope the potential trirail station is on 29th street.

Now put those roads on diets and widen the sidewalks.

Yeah because look at those people bumping into each other on those “narrow sidewalks.”

Do people like you really have something constructive to say?

Constructive comments are only ones you agree with right?

Making asinine comments are the only ones you agree with right?

Yes there is somebody on here who ONLY posts carping negative comments, as though venomous is his default attitude. He even used the F-word twice to respond to one of my comments and insulted me by saying I probably wasn’t even a real Londoner. Maybe a different commenter, but how about we have less sarcasm/hate talk.

Every time I see one of your comments, I get what you’re saying, because I’ve been to London. I’ve also been to Germany, France, Spain, and really all over Europe. You have people commenting on this site that have never been anywhere their whole lives but Miami, so ignore those idiots.

PS
Loved Spain.. hated Italy

As if we need wide sidewalks under a freeway. What’s next, sidewalk cafes? A lot more streets in Miami need attention.

That looks really nice. I feel bad for the businesses on NE 40th St between North Miami Ave and NE 1st ave. That area has been in the dark for 2 years.

Anonymous

Agreed re: that block on 40th it’s totally dark. What’s up with that????

Anonymous

There’s a night club on that block that’s decent but yeah you’re right in general.

I spent months last year trying to get City and FPL to fix streetlights on that block as I have a house on 41st and used that road when 41st was closed for two years. The lights are still out. It seems like the powerful Design District people could get this fixed but they either can’t or don’t care.

I heard that Dacra damaged the underground power lines when they installed their LED street lights. That block is the Design District’s last undeveloped area.

Nice! The city could also use it under the bridges betweek Brickell and Downtown. There are high end condos in both sides and no decent connection:

They call that artwork?! it’s hideous lol

It looks ghettoish

I agree. Very dated already. Ummm… I like the colored lights at least…

A missed opportunity to reinvent an underbridge passage.

Whether you like it or not…its better than what was there before. At least now they have some color.

You know, I’ve gotten into it with you before and have always had a dislike for you, but I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion about this.

Sometimes it seems like a bunch of little Grumpy Smurfs are trolling TNM site.

Gee thanks (about agreeing with me on this). Why don’t you like me? You don’t even know me. What have I done to deserve your ire?

Where is the movement to give 195 a signature “bridge”/overpass?

No transit. You’ll have to be satisfied with lights.
