And if we did need that design built, the timeline is a disaster! 2033??? This is why China beats us. They get to work on what they need to sustain economic growth for the future asap. Meanwhile, we here spend countless hours debating over how to build it, when, where, who, and why to build it. This thing will get done by the time I finish college, travel all the continents, become a millionaire, visit the moon, buy a house under the ocean, and it probably won’t even get built!

Where are these construction dates from?

Face it guys. One more time I will try to explain: This is the USA
It’s all about isolationism, individuality and parking lots. Forget mass transit, forget logical dense, interesting urban cities. Look at the fastest growing cities in the area. Doral and Miramar. Neither have connectivity of any kind. As long as we foolishly continue to build parking lots and not design a transit system that works we are wasting our time.

Any of the teams except Team B. Unless you want your bridge to look like a cereal box with balconies.

What a complete and utter waste of money

simply draws more attention to an ugly roadway that belongs underground.

EVERY time I start to give in and accept that this bridge is “happening” and will be “better”, some nonsense like this happens and wakes me from my stupor.

I HATE this bridge. I hate how it does LITTLE to actually improve interconnectivity between north Overtown, Edgewater, Midtown, and Wynwood with the core Downtown area. I hate how it’s typical Miami, building something that is flashy but largely unnecessary while ignoring the better option. I hate how this is a temporary “fix” for a long term problem.

I think I’m going to actually hope that this project is delayed and delayed and never happens. Maybe in a decade they’ll throw that money back into the pool to construct a better transportation throughway that is focused on the FUTURE and not simply trying to put a silly bow on an ugly and intrusive land bridge.

How did you get it right a in your comment further up, yet so wrong here?

Nothing there is wrong.

Unfortunately Calatrava wasn’t invited to be part of the team. I have no doubts it would have put this ridiculous bridge on the map. Now, I only hope Arquitectonica doesn’t get selected.

The worst blahrchitects would be Architectonica

Another stupid competition. Let the cone of silences begin and the private investigators run wild.

I don’t understand the point of a ‘land bridge’ when there’s water and an actual bridge like 1000 feet away that they could really create a ‘signature bridge’ next to the turning basin of huge cruise ships and overlooking the city that would be visible for miles…seems to make more sense especially with as much as they’re spending, this just seems completely unnecessary…and I agree either way NOT arquitectonica

It’s going to be Arquitectonica. And Related is going to figure out a way to receive approval to put crappy apartments on top of it somehow.

OMG….la creme de la creme of our very own ‘talented’ rchitects

Wait, I thought that the bridge had already being “designed” that is why they went for the “arch” as opposed to the “wishbone”. Does this mean it may look completely different now?

If we’re lucky, the winning design will look nothing like the “wishbone” or “lotus” designs that FDOT provided as examples

suomynona

I’m pretty sure the original list of 4(?) designs were just suggestions that the committee considered. And that they specifically stated in the bidding process that an architect is able to design an entirely different bridge than either of the two “finalists”, as long as that bridge receives approval.

First they come out with the idea of building a bridge that by the way we already have, then they select the design, last they hire an architect to basically draw the bridge that was previously ‘selected’….this is 100% idiotic mentality….and let’s face Arquitectonica will get ‘magically’ selected.

It’s a bridge, so comparing judging architects on their buildings might not be applicable. Still, from the aforementioned, I’d like to see Candela because of its lasting legacy. Arquitectonica lost its legacy and in past couple years, and Zyscovich and Stantec are just plain shit.

Don’t need a bridge that spans streets. This should be a cheap dig and cover tunnel to reclaim useable surface land and tie the communities together. What a waste

Pleaaaaaaaseeeee NOT Arquitectonica AGAIN
