Beckham Finds New, Privately Owned Site For Stadium

David Beckham has found a site for his soccer stadium, and it isn’t next to Marlins Park.

Instead, Beckham partner Tim Leiweke told CNBC yesterday that “I think we have found a site” that is “probably different than what people think we’re doing.” He said that the group would know within days if they have a deal.

Dade schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho told the Herald that he didn’t know where Beckham’s new site is, but it is privately owned.

From everything I have read this seems to be a good decision. The owners of properties located by the Marlins site wanted too much money, and the Marlins themselves would have had too much control over this new MLS team. More than likely the site the Beckham group is thinking about now is somewhere in or near Overtown. With so many projects around this area, this location would be a much better choice. I for one hope that it will be close to either the Metro or the Metromover. That will certainly help increase the number of fans who will attend games, me included.

Miami New Times reported yesterday it is still rumored to be Overtown. Near the Culmer Station Maybe? I wish they would just announce it already!

Good. Now let them own the land and not transfer the land to the school district so they don’t have to pay taxes.

This is fantastic for Miami! He’s funding it! Just needs the right location. Our other teams don’t deserve stadiums except the Heat

Time for Tropical Park/South Miami joint stadium with UM. Downtown has too much private money/interest for a site there to happen, so these other options would make the most sense.
