Billionaire Eyes South Beach For Flag Of Gratitude After Giving Up On Downtown

Helathcare billionaire Mike Fernandez has ‘all but given up’ on building a 425-foot American flag in downtown Miami, but he still might build it in South Beach.

Fernandez told the Miami Herald that ‘dirty politics’ were to blame for his decision to give up on plans for the flag. Fernandez alleged that elected officials asked him to hire acquaintances or support them politically to gain their support, which he called blackmail.

The 16,000-square-foot ‘Flag of Gratitude’ would have become the tallest in the U.S., but faced criticism over aesthetics.
