Billionaire’s Website Promotes Flag Of Gratitude In Museum Park

Healthcare billionaire Mike Fernandez now has a website where he promotes his vision to build a ‘Flag of Gratitude’ in downtown Miami.

The flag would be 425-feet tall – down from the 450-feet that had been announced earlier, but still the tallest flag in the U.S. It also would be located in Museum Park instead of Parcel B.

According to the website, funding for construction of the flag has been secured. A committee will be launching an effort to obtain private donations for maintenance of the flag for the next decade.

I am a proud American. However I think millions of dollars for a flag is very excessive. Maybe it would be more American to do something more useful with $5-$10 million. But what do I know, I’m not a billionaire… On the other hand this location is the most appropriate. It would be a nice terminus to Government Cut. If it had to be built, this location is best.

i think that this should be placed on a ballot for a vote as it is on city land it should be the voters who decide if it should be there or not and the cost of the election should be paid by the billionaire as he is requesting to use public land for his project or are we going to let any body who has the money just plop anything they want on public land because they deem it patriotic. the people need to vote on this and that is the American thing to do!

Should be built on port. What better way to welcome foreign ships and tourists to Miami and the US then with an American flag. Also, better opportunity for them to take pictures of it from a boat. If left on museum park, impossible to take pictures with it.

“Phony carpetbagger out of downtown Miami”???? I really do NOT understand your Comment because either born in the states or if you came from another country, you should be more than Thankful and grateful for living in this country that Many of us call home. Theirs NO other Country that allows the freedom and the opportunity to make a prosperous living than this country does, so before calling this Beautiful Flag that represents this beautiful country a “carpetbagger” you should be honoring this flag 24/7 and being thankful for the things you have that an unlimited number of people do NOT have.

Luchiano, build this thing in your own neighborhood and worship it all you want. I know you would lick boots of this guy at first opportunity, but that can’t be my problem.

XVS, If I could build it in my own neighborhood, I would, But I really don’t understand how A Pole and A flag will affect you and Like I’ve said and like many other people have said, It’s his Money he can do whatever he desires with it.

In Addition, Why wouldn’t you like to see the American Flag?? I was born and raised in BRISTOL, Tennessee and We would be honored and privileged to have the Largest American Flag in the place we live.

I rather see that flag instead of that Cuban American Museum proposed on parcel B.

I think the vast majority of Miami-Dade residents would agree with you

I want neither in that area.

Somehow when it comes to hating on Cubans is so popular these days, that is why it will be built and we don’t care what you people think. Bwajajajaja

If you don’t like us Cubans, then GTFO. We are the majority whether you like it or not. That being said, I think the museum would be more appropriate in Little Havana.

Put on private property

Let the billionaire put the flag pole on his own private property. Every developer and low rent politician want to pave our parks. Bad idea. The monster flag pole in Wisconsin fell down in a storm.

This flag gesture isn’t about american pride at all. This is about Fernandez’s EGO. He’s taking the cheap way out. He wants his mark on the Miami skyline, but doesn’t want to pay for a building. That flag will be seen in every publication, television show, and motion picture that displays the miami skyline; all for 1/1000th of the price of a high-rise. That flag would be a fake and gaudy eye sore. He needs to take that money and donate to a local school. ohhh right.. but he wont because but that wouldn’t be as noticeable.

Oh BTW: After 10 years expire, your tax dollars will be paying for it.

I think the flag is perfect in this new location. I’m sure it can be seen from the port by all the tourists coming to visit our city.

Mr Fernandez should build the flag pole at his Coral Gables waterfront home, if he can get a permit.
