‘Blue Beetle’ No. 1 At Box Office, Features Miami Skyline

Blue Beetle, which was the most-watched movie in theaters this past weekend, showcases Miami’s skyline in the film.

The film grossed $25.4 million over the weekend, according to AP, becoming the first movie to surpass Barbie since its release last month.

Miami inspired the look of the film, as well as two late 80’s Japanese films, according to Den of Geek.

A trailer shows shots of Worldcenter, Downtown Miami, and Brickell, augmented with futuristic-looking buildings.

While Miami’s skyline served as inspiration, filming for Blue Beetle mostly took place in Georgia.

We need more movies shot in Miami and/or about Miami. We need to encourage filming in Miami by giving proper tax incentives to filmakers.

Holliwood will soon move to Miami the way things are going.

They should, filming will cost less and no state or city income taxes. Miamiwood I’m here waiting for you!!

Florida’s legislature cut all incentives for filming which is why most filming is done in Georgia these days, including this movie.

Considering what Hollywood has done to Georgia, including a pajama boy carpetbagger and wife-beating Jesse Jackson wannabe, good riddance.

I think it rains too much here compared to California for this to happen

I know most of you weren’t in Miami yet, but this was the condition in the late 00s and into the 10s. Former mayor of Miami did away with these incentives, and it’s why you’ve seen a lot of the filming leave to Georgia.

When I lived in Midtown 09′-13′, you would see filming in or around midtown monthly.

The opening shot of the Paramount in the trailer is awesome – that building is super photogenic and a key piece of the developing Park West skyline. It’s no wonder so many drone photographers focus on this part of the skyline! Beautiful!

Just curious, because I truly don’t know. Why is there insistence on calling the area near World Center Park West? I mean, I can see it is West of the park, but is it not in downtown? I don’t tell people I live in the Central Business District. I just tell them I live in downtown. I don’t mean to be rude here, but I am just not sure what benefit there is to trying to differentiate certain areas of downtown when most have no idea why someone is still calling an area Park West. Help me understand, please. Again, I am not trying to be mean or rude. I am just trying to understand the reasoning and benefit this brings. Thanks in advance.

Miami WorldCenter is a development in the neighborhood of park west. Why do I call it that? Because that’s the name of the neighborhood.

Duh

Even the Metromover station is called Park West. Miami Worldcenter is situated in Park West, which is situated in downtown, which is in Miami, which is in Florida…etc.

Has anyone seen the lights at 1 Broadway? Certain illuminated units have form a pattern resembling a large swastika. I’ve heard multiple concerns about this display and why it is lit this way.

Why would you downvote this? Are they going to investigate and remove this light display, even if unintentional?

Serves them right, the building was fine as it was until they made it into another glass box.

“While Miami’s skyline served as inspiration, filming for Blue Beetle mostly took place in Georgia.” And that’s because the state and the county cut film incentives to producers. That drove those who work in the industry to GA where they ENCOURAGE filmmakers to shoot there with financial incentives.

Miami should not allow this without recognition!

That would be really cool to have an Asia or Hudson Yards stark tower building like that.

Omg I love the two towers that peak up when combined together. That would be a cool inspiration.

That’s a wonderful new angle starting from world center south. But it’s been ultra edited not just for additional neon lights but also moving a bunch including miami tower west for more width.

We really need higher quality development on west side, I love the west side so much more in terms of location and geography closer to Gables, Coconut Grove, Lauderdale, Palm Beach and quicker access to Brickell.

Little Havana boomed, lol. Also the airport wouldn’t be happy with all that western development.A

We need a new airport anyway. The airport would rather Miami expand west than north.

Why, the upper runway between 30 and 36th street is better? Or used more for landing planes that are lower than climbing planes?

Dudes, film industries don’t just setup in places because they are cheap. What kind of range of shots or scenery are you going to get in Miami or Florida. Let’s stick to South Florida. A million movies showing some buildings and a palm tree. You all are a trip. You can literally get any shot or scene from around the globe without leaving the state of California. And Georgia provides a billion more interesting options than this place. I don’t think you all wear thinking caps here.
