A Miami Beach Board granted a one-year extension to Russell Galbut’s Crescent Heights to build a mixed-use project in the 600 block of Alton Road, but Galbut will be required to clean up an eyesore on the property.
Galbut is reverting to a plan that includes 444 residential units after encountering opposition to a proposed 50-story tower on the site. Galbut now has until November 2015 to obtain a full construction permit.
As a condition for the extension, the board required Crescent Heights to clean up broken glass and install temporary railings at the South Shore Hospital building, South Beach’s biggest eyesore since being damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Crescent Heights has 90 days to complete the work.
