Boeing Confirms Eastern Air Lines Order, But Feds Want Answers

The Boeing Company confirmed today that it has received orders for ten 737-800 jets from Miami-based Eastern Air Lines.

Eastern also said that it has placed a deposit for an additional ten 737 MAX aircraft.

Eastern execs must now respond to a federal request for ownership information after the company completed a private placement earlier this year. Officials want to ensure that Eastern is compliant with U.S. law that limits foreign ownership of airlines to 25%.  As is standard procedure, processing of Eastern’s request for an operating certificate has been suspended until the airline submits the required documentation.
