Brickell World Plaza Files Plan For 12-Story Retail & Garage

Retail development is spreading around Brickell City Centre, with a new 12-story project at Brickell World Plaza the most recent proposal.

Brickell Financial Centre, LLC submitted the new plans to city planning officials this month, requesting modification of a previously approved Major Use Special Permit.

The developer intends to build a 12-story structure with 23,168 square feet of restaurant space, and 553 parking spaces. The restaurant space will be on the ground floor and include outdoor terraces, while the second floor will be destination retail.

The 12-story height is temporary, according to a letter from the developer’s attorney. A future phase will include up to 360 hotel units, 134 condo units, and an additional 770 parking spaces in a 904-foot tower.

The developer says that the new plan was designed with Miami 21’s urbanist goals in mind, and the new retail and restaurant space will feed off and add to the pedestrian activity generated by the adjacent Brickell City Centre.

Believe it or not, parking garages are in every major city downtown core.

Good, better use of that surface lot.

The renderings are from 7st. Much better use than a surface lot. This is smart infill. GO MIAMI

Hopefully they come through on the second phase, it would be pretty awkward to have a 12 story garage at such a prominent site for very long.

I agree
Such prime real estate for a garage

It seems like the garage will stay and the future tower will be on the part of the lot to the north…

I am surprised by the design, a little boring for HOK

Would you have proposed a spherical parking garage?

We are at the height of automobile use, with car sharing, autonomous cars, downtown bringing in a rail system and the explosive growth in brickell transforming it into a walkable city. I find this project short sighted.

Big ugly box. Boring AF

Would you have preferred it be an empty lot?

Yes, open space in brickell is at a minimum and the lot is full of mature trees. Keep the lot.

Yes, we are indeed lacking empty lots throughout the city. Pretty soon, there will hardly be any empty lots left.

The weird ghost-shadow thing immediately behind it in both the day and night renders made me think we were getting something like the Bank of China tower in Hong Kong. Hopefully whatever they do reveal there for phase two ends up being more in line with that standard than the parking-box we’re getting now.

so at the end we will end up with a tower on top of a dumb pedestal and one design will have nothing to do with the other…just great!!

A garage for the local inhabitants just like it’s done up north.
