Brightline Announces Boca Raton Station Will Open In 2022, Station Now Topped Off

Brightline held a topping off ceremony for a new station in Boca Raton and announced that train service will launch in 2022.

Passenger service to Boca Raton is expected to begin before the end of the year, becoming its fourth station after Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, Brightline said in a press release yesterday.

The Brightline Boca station will be 22,000 square feet, with lounges for passengers in Smart and Premium classes, along with an autonomous market.

There will also be a 455-space parking garage, with a floor dedicated to visitors of the adjacent downtown library.

Brightline says it expects around 1.8 million visitors annually to use its service to visit Boca by 2025.

The company also said it remains on track to open a new station in Aventura before the end of 2022, with Orlando expected in early 2023.

I thought Metromover was being extended to the DD and WW?

Melo is sigma and Chad

brightline or trirail probably would do it before the county extends the metromover

Optimism

It will be, and also there will be a station near 27th St for Wynwood/Midtown on the Northeast Corridor regional/commuter rail service on the FEC tracks.

^^There are no such plans, only studies.

Anonymous

LOL, no that was a study, which will conclude Tri-Rail or Brightline can serve the area and infrastructure is already built, without ruining the revitalization potential of streets with massive flyovers.

thought the same, wonder if they will start building a bridge now.

The design is to have only one track with access to the station.
The two main lines can access the “siding” from the north and the south.
If you wish to cross the street it will be necessary to go about 2 blocks to the south and cross at a traffic light. This station is a much cheaper design than the others.

Why is the only passenger entry from the west, can they only board one train at once? Doesn’t seem nearly as efficient as their other stations…

Cheaper to build that way

There will be a pedestrian bridge over the tracks. It’s not shown in the pictures.

They claim that yet on their website it’s impossible to buy advance tickets going to/from the boca station for any future day in 2022 and there’s only 4 months left to this year. I bet they won’t have the boca station in operation nor bookable until Q2 2023 at best

Does this mean the second Tri-Rail Boca station at glades road is extra canceled? As well as FEC line commuter rail which is being half taken over by Brightline but with only five or six stations instead of 20 in the region. Miami, Aventura, FTL and airport, Boca, and West Palm Beach.

Anonymous

It was killed a few years ago, despite the city’s preexisting long-range plan on turning the Town Center Mall area into a TOD.

Anonymous

There is a possibility that the opening of the Brightline in Boca(if it’s a success) could revive interest in the glades rd station idea if the numbers for the existing trirail station go up. Sort of an induced demand situation where the glades rd station is seen as necessary for overflow.
As for the original tri rail style 20 stop commuter line I kinda doubt it seeing as how you would kinda need a third track to support both the local, the long distance and any freight traffic. Personally I’m just hoping they actually build the “local” stop in Jupiter that was proposed but mysteriously has disappeared from alot of official material.
(Sorry I didn’t mean to write a book 😅)

Jacob

Initially they would place sidings accessible from north and south track. Freight is relatively frequent so that should do for now. Eventually if the commuter rail starts running every 15 mins , then probably they will need a 3rd track at least in the core sections.

Glades is cancelled (right now). The FEC (NE Corridor) commuter rail line is a go. Brightline is going to run it separately from it’s current operation. If you drive past the new Aventura station they are building for BL you can see the low level platform for the commuter rail (next to BL’s high level platform). It’ll run down into Miami Central. If this (and Tri-rail to Miami Central) is a success then maybe Glades has a chance.

Jacob

What does BL mean?

BL will do 110 WPB to Cocoa, 125mph from Cocoa to Orlando and they are talking about 150mph from a stop near Disney to Tampa. That’s about as fast as it can get without going electric. BL West SoCal to Vegas will be electric and go up to 200mph.

anonymous

you cant really do 150 mph without electric

JamBro

Not a mention of address, cross roads or even general vicinity of the location, in Boca.

Fixxer

The map is misleading. The Boca station is at 101 NW 4th St., next to the Public Library, near the “Community Center”. It’s not by the “Community Garden”.

1.8 million visitors per year by 2025. YEAH RIGHT. that is almost 5,000 visitors
PER DAY. Will there that many buses / UBER ETC to take care of these poor lost souls? YEAH RIGHT!

Anonymous

Seems crazy to me too – 1.8 Million is 4,931 per day. Say they are counting both directions… at 32 trains per day that’s 154 people getting on or off each train at Boca. They better order more passenger cars now and besides rideshare, expand the parking lot structure.

You realize how many businesses, corporate offices and office parks there are? And Fau etc

Anonymous

This stop in Boca is so unneeded. The stop should have been done at the Fort Lauderdale airport instead.

More like countless businesses downtown, and shuttle service to and from the Yamato Road Tri-Rail station, which is a major job center.

When I was in Atlanta a few years back on business, I was surprised at how many company shuttle vans were at the Metro (MARTA) train stations. I thought it was pretty cool that private companies provided transportation between it and their offices.
