Brightline Bridge To Aventura Mall In The Works

Miami-Dade’s Commission had a special meeting scheduled for this morning on an easement for the Brightline pedestrian bridge in Aventura.

The bridge would cross Biscayne Boulevard, allowing a direct connection from the Brightline Aventura station to the Aventura Mall property.

A sketch depicting the easement shows a 1,325 square foot building proposed at the corner of 196th Street at, where the east end of the bridge is to be located.

Brightline contracted for fabrication of the bridge, which has already been completed, a memo says. The bridge pieces have now been sitting in storage for months, according to a previous report.

Time is of the essence to secure the necessary easement in light of the time restrictions set forth in a Development Agreement between Brightline and Miami-Dade, the resolution notes.

Hopefully the Mall/City will cough up some funds to connect the proposed building to the Mall via another pedestrian bridge to the parking garage that also serves as the MDT bus terminal. That will make getting to and fro from the train easier– espcially when lugging packages.

How have they not planned for this sooner?! The bridge has been sitting onsite in the parking lot since at least June…

Makes absolutely no sense to have a bridge when the other side takes you to a sea of parking. It needs to connect to the J.C. Penney parking garage with the bus terminal and principal mall entrance near Nordstrom.

That’s why I’m not a huge fan of brightline. It doesn’t really help alleviate traffic as much as people think.

Neither does any other form of public transit. SF-Oakland has more transit and less people than Miami-Ft. Lauderdale yet similarly bad traffic.

It’s up to Aventura Mall to pay for the exstension to the garage since a pedestrian bridge will be over their property. I heard the City of Aventura is lobbying for that and perhaps might throw in some incentive monies to make it happen.

Finally they’re making some progress with the bridge. They should’ve had this design plan ready 2 years ago when the station was first opened up. The question is when does it start?

They should’ve had that bridge ready when they opened the station. Please get it ready soon. I’d rather walk over the 10 lanes of traffic than walk across them. Plus Uber prices are too high for short distance.
Construction should take place in the middle of the night and I hope it provides at least 2 elevators 🛗 for physically elderly & physically disabled people. I do my workouts, shopping or dining at the mall so I’m in the area a lot. I see Brightline trains all the time. If only I could get to the station from the mall to jump on a train to downtown Miami or anywhere up north. Walking across the bridge getting to the mall will be easier faster and stress free being able to avoid the traffic on Biscayne Boulevard.

Seems like a terrible idea to have the building entrance right on the corner. Cars are going to be stopping in the traffic lanes to drop people off.

Yeah, pesky humans are such an inconvenience to the almighty savior the car.

They’ll probably do what they did with the bridge between station towers and close off that part of US1 off and place the bridge in overnight like they did the first time before they opened the station. They’ll most likely be using cranes again. Look at video of them doing it the first time over West Dixie Highway & the railway tracks it’s on YouTube. They should do it at night when cars are not driving to avoid any accidents or god for bid a collapse like FIU’s Bridge.
