Brightline Holding Meetings With Broward Officials To Finalize Commuter Rail Service

Brightline has been holding meetings with officials from Broward in recent weeks in an effort to finalize a deal for commuter rail line on its tracks.

The company signed a letter of intent with Broward last May to build the coastal link service. It told investors late last year that it hoped to complete the deal by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

Brightline executives held separate meetings with commissioners Barbara Sharief and Beam Furr over the past month, records show.

A December report to investors said the company has identified the following potential stations in Broward:

  • Hallandale Beach
  • Downtown Hollywood
  • Dania Beach
  • Fort Lauderdale Airport
  • Downtown Fort Lauderdale (an existing intercity station)
  • Wilton Manors
  • Oakland Park
  • Downtown Pompano Beach

The train service would connect to Miami-Dade’s northeast corridor commuter rail that is already in progress. The company also wants to extend it through Palm Beach.

I need a train from Miami to FLL airport. Desperately. Sometimes the Uber charges are ridiculous $67. Can’t wait for the fort lauderdale airport connector. Please make it happen asap.

Hey genius, TriRail goes from Miami to FLL for about $15

Anonymous

Um, TriRail doesn’t go from Miami to the Fort Lauderdale Airport.

Tri rail doesn’t go to fll airport. The nearest tri rail stop is miles away. Plus the frequency is horrible and the starting point of tri rail is near Miami airport and not Miami. What rock do you live under before giving garbage advice to people?

Metromover could loop so much easier into FLL

Metromover or Metrorail!? All these references to a downtown Miami circulator which has nothing to do with and is nowhere near FLL.

Brightline is trying to sell land in Ft. Lauderdale. This story is meant to pump up the land valuation.

This only works because of the massive subsidies that commuter rail works. Unfortunately for us (taxpayer), this will also include a guaranteed profit for the operator

Tri Rail should be running the commuter rail – and it should be accessible (read: affordable) for all.

Ask Carlos Gimenez and Carlos Alvarez what were they thinking when they declined the offer to buy those tracks….

They were thinking about another highway.

Tri rail can still operate this line on Brightline tracks

Anonymous

No. They cannot. They are not brightlines tracks… They are FECs tracks.

Anonymous

Actually the MiamiDade Commission was considering working with a potential TriRail operation in FEC tracks. While there is a closer relationship between FEC and Brightline, FEC has the right to contract with TriRail to operate on its tracks.

No mention on this entire article that brightline does not own the tracks or have the authority to operate on the FEC ROW other than the three current stations on the line. Another fluff article/meeting that will lead to nothing but tears.

8 stops within 15 miles. That will be fun.

There have been dozens of studies and every single one proved Bright line would NEVER BE PROFITABLE we the taxpayers will be paying both the bribes AKA donations and the entire upkeep. That’s why we voted down a dozen times.

I hope they build some sort of tunnel or overpass in the at-grade crossings with a lot of traffic (Midtown and NE 163rd, for instance). With two or three times the number of trains we had prior to the pandemic-lead shutdown, we’ll have a s*!t-show of accidents.

If Hialeah has its own downtown why not Homestead?

One of the few sane cities in Broward County, but I guess most “The Next ‘Broward’ REEEEE” people on here wouldn’t know.
