Brightline Selects Contractor For Pedestrian Bridge To Aventura Mall

A Brightline selection committee has chosen a contractor to build a pedestrian bridge from Aventura station to the Aventura mall property.

Middlesex, which “performed well” on previous Brightline construction work, was chosen following an RFQ process, the company said in a construction update yesterday.

Brightline will now begin contract negotiations with the firm, the company said.

Design of the steel truss bridge itself is 100% complete, and has passed peer review by an independent engineering firm.

The bridge’s design has also been submitted to FDOT for review, with approval anticipated for the third week of August.

The east vertical tower which includes stairs and elevators to the bridge has reached the 60% design level. The 60% drawings will be submitted to FDOT in August.

In addition to Brightline’s inter-city train service, commuter rail service is also now in planning for the Aventura station.

The renderings below were released by developer Turnberry in 2022, which proposed the Two Turnberry office building at the end of the pedestrian bridge. They likely do not reflect the final design:

They should’ve extended the bridge all the way to the mall, not a parking lot.

Yes, and added a new wing of stores and entertainment beyond a bigger Apple Store and slide.

I disagree. They are planning more apartments and office space. So people won’t be walking through a parking lot

They need one in Boca connecting to Mizner Square as well

Buildings are in the way, unless Brightline buys them for residential buildings like in West Palm Beach.

Boca station needs to get the other side platform built and quit playing around. They would probably get every train stopping there if it didn’t have to cross all tracks to enter the station. They could combine this with a bridge over the papa johns parking lot to Plaza Real.

It’s important to note the bridge will not actually connect to the mall itself

If they build it, people will come to the mall.

There really should be a dedicated covered walkway from the bridge terminus to the mall entrance to protect pedestrians from the sun & rain…(& Miami drivers too)

For the people in charge, that is a feature, not a bug.

The aventura station area could have so much more density in terms of housing

Since the late 1990s I’d say that area has had a lot of housing development in comparison to some other areas outside the Downtown/Miami Beach area.

Malls should be redesigned to include luxury condominium towers.

Malls should be surrounded by lakes and scenic nature outside so people enjoy the outdoor experience and then rush inside for the AC retail experience.

Literally that’s what’s surrounding this mall.

But are there outside
Vendors intermixed to lead the people walking inside

Look at the Palm Beach Outlet Mall for inspiration or the square, create an outside downtown

Higher density equals heavier traffic and congestion, you obviously don’t live in Aventura or you wouldn’t make such a statement.

The Mall nixed the office building the pedestrian bridge was to be anchored to. Hopefully it will extend all the way to the mall via the parking garage.

Hope they don’t select the designers of the FIU bridge.

IDK, is “Middlesex” one of the 67-gender DEI hires?

Middlesex is the title you gain once you turn 40 and you’re middle aged and can only have early bird sex because you want to sleep.

Amazing! Love Aventura.

Anyone know when we get details on the commuter rail? It’s great that it’s going to Aventura but, more so, this seems like a fast way to establish public transit to Midtown/Wynwood and the Design District from downtown (in addition to eventually extending the Metromover up N Miami Ave).

When in doubt add a pedestrian bridge.

They also need one across Broward Blvd near the Ft. Lauderdale station

hey – I’m just happy they’re actually doing it – was expecting them just not to do it or wait until that office building got built and push it on them
