Broward Breaks Ground On 800-Room Omni Hotel At Convention Center

Construction is now underway an an 800-room Omni hotel attached to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

The new hotel will rise 29 stories. It will include a spa and meeting space, attached to the convention center.

Broward is issuing $369 million in bonds to pay for the project, plus also contributing $280 million from general funds.

The Associated Press recently reported that the general fund contribution actually may have included $140 million in rerouted Covid relief funds from the federal government.

Work appears to be already underway at the site, a photo shows.

This will help the Broward Convention Center.
I hope people don’t comment complaining of Broward articles on this site.
South Florida is one major metropolitan hub, and this journal is appropriate in publishing articles that are not exclusive to Miami.

Miami walked so Broward can crawl.

PBC and the west coast walks and Miami-Dade and Broward are crippled, with the former only learning to walk again in the last couple of decades after massive strokes in the 70s and 80s.

Miami Dade and Broward have been carrying the entire state for the past century. Stop this nonsense. Everything else was a snoozefest that nobody knew about.

Why don’t we get Boca Raton or West Palm Beach articles?

Boca and West Palm are way too far away. Broward is our neighbor with many people commuting back and forth between the two counties. Palm beach is over an hour away. They could get their own website.

This looks nearly identical to the Omni in Dallas, a sharp looking building regardless.

Broward is shaping up with this hotel breaking ground while Miami is still deciding on where to put the football ⚽ stadium, and no convention hotel in the horizon for downtown
Shame

Even as a copy and paste job of a Dallas hotel, it still looks better than the last MWC convention center hotel rendition. Even Broward’s cost-overrun courthouse looks better than the monstrosity Miami-Dade will be stuck with.

No it’s not! I’ve seen your courthouse. It’s tiny.

Everyone is talking Miami this, Dade and Broward county that , how about some positivity like jobs that’ll open post pandemic , or someone to chime in as to when is the projected dates , look folks taxes suck cause you know we are flipping some of that bill , bonds help since there isn’t much cash flow , so to attract business and increase revenue within its own framework is a good thing , so think positive and if you feel left out then don’t talk about it , just be about it , push your elected officials to push for business to come your way , at the end of the day folks regardless of our personal feelings , it is still a business

Looks exactly like the one Omni built in Dallas a few years ago…not saying it’s a bad thing, but…just sayin…

The people mover they’re discussing at the airport should extend to the convention center.

Criminal deal, by the crooked commission. No reason for tax money, to be ised for building a hotel!!!!

Amazing.. they can get and build an “800-room Omni hotel” next to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center but foot dragging Miami don’t have a Convention Center yet and can’t get and build a Resort Casino for grown-ups to go to. But the city can throw lots of money at idjut train station builders who can’t get the dimensions right to build a stop at Brightline’s Miami Central for Tri-rail trains or the MIC station for AmTrak trains.

smh…

LOL, yeah sure, MDC should also misappropriate COVID relief funds for a convention center hotel.

lol you clearly didnt see that FTL is issuing bonds to pay for this. The Miami Convention Center proposed next to worldcenter is being privately developed

Clearly you think I didn’t see anything about Broward County issuing bonds to pay for this project, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about Fort Lauderdale getting a new 800 room hotel that’s attached to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center while the elected power that be in Miami are still dragging their feet after years of getting folks hopes up high about a Hotel/Convention Center.
