Carnival Breaks Ground On PortMiami Terminal Expansion, Will Accommodate Their Biggest Ships

Carnival Cruise lines held a groundbreaking ceremony last week for a $195 expansion and renovation of Terminal F at PortMiami.

Renovation work already began in September of 2020.

When complete in 2022, the terminal will have 471,000 square feet and will be able to accommodate Carnival’s biggest ships.

Carnival will base their Celebration ship at the new terminal upon completion in 2022, part of their biggest class ships. Construction of the ship is now underway.

The Celebration will be powered by liquefied natural gas and will feature a roller coaster.

Berenblum Busch Architects of Miami is designing the terminal expansion.

In total, there is now nearly $1.2 billion in new cruise terminal space coming to PortMiami, which is already the biggest in the world. In addition to the $195 Carnival terminal, there is:

  • Royal Caribbean’s Crown of Miami ($250 million, completed 2018)
  • MSC Cruise Terminal and US HQ ($300 million+, approved 2019)
  • Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pearl of Miami ($239 million, completion 2021)
  • Virgin Voyages Palm Grove Terminal (179 million, completion October 2021)

Other projects at PortMiami include a Brightline station and a $300 million Royal Caribbean Global Headquarters, which is now on hold.

It’s Carnival what do you expect.

You’re judging a book by it’s cover.

Yeah, it only costs $195

Anonymous

yeah, at the $195 total budget they were only able to afford a pressure wash on their white circus tents and the rest is just the usual stuff in the rendering which won’t happen. The conservative budget is a good move for now though until cruising revenues resume post-covid

Even before COVID I was always scared of catching something on a Carnival cruise.

So you always booked another cruise ship company and that would qualm your fears?

LOL!!! Carnival is the only fun ship tho imo. Other lines are strict. I remember going to club o2 and it was a riot

You have to admit, it’s a lot less messier than a trumpster storm trooper riot.

Shore power > LNG

LNG burns clean so what would be the point of shore power?? The port of LA uses natural gas as much as possible and the air in LA is cleaner than it has been in decades.

Anonymous

Wasting LNG for no reason is #1

Why even use it when we have our power plants already running? Just hook up shut down your LNG and enjoy Miami

port of LA has shore power.

Not as long as they continue the forest fires.

So shore power is where to find all those LNG union jobs Biden killed. JUST KIDDING, they get to work in a cage at an Amazon warehouse.

It’s time for the Cruise Lines to coordinate on a Dodge Island People Mover system to transport guests from the new Brightline station to all of these new terminals.

no, it’s not. build something for residents first.

Brightline has a plan in the works for a rail spur between Miami Central and the port. And since I used to work for them before they shut down operations, they are serious with getting it done since it wld provide a seamless trip from port to Disney.

They held a ground breaking ceremony a couple weeks ago for the Virgin Voyages train link to MiamiCentral. The county uploaded a video of it on their YouTube channel.

More transfers huh.

look at the other 2 beautiful terminals then look at carnivals…..

Anonymous

I have never been on a cruise, but word has always been Carnival is the Greyhound Bus of the seas.

These people bash Carnival but want cheap Brightline train tickets… go figure.

Anonymous

Two different things. I would only be on Brightline a few hours max. I would I trust Carnival with providing me clean rooms, proper poop disposal, electricity, safety at sea?

Anonymous

… and cheaper fares.

Anonymous

It only costs $195, no wonder it lloks cheap? How did construction prices get so low?! 😛

Anonymous

I was wondering the same thing. $195 dollars?.. you can spend that much just buying drinks on South Beach in one night.

So this is an expansion not a new terminal so I can see why costs are lower

Not bad. Better then nothing i suppose.

Anonymous

And most of these people on here bashing Carnival Cruise Line will more than likely go there looking to book a cheaper cruise.

Dont like the design but it will get the job done… my biggest issue with the design is keeping that stupid tent looking shit! Shit looking like something you see at the circus… it’s old and I cant believe they are keeping it which means we have to look at it for the next 50 years!

Cheap, but at least it’s going forward. Hopefully the Royal HQ will start back up

Anonymous

Royal is over $20 billion in debt, had to dilute their own shares just to survive, and already sold off two of their brands, azamara and Pullmantur. They’ll be lucky to even survive the pandemic so don’t hold your breath on that HQ

Doubtful, they won’t be able to afford the construction cost until they’ve resumed generating cruise revenues again in the US and globally. That can’t happen until covid herd immunity is achieved which looks like early 2022 at best. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carnival decides to buy cash-strapped Royal on the cheap

Still no shore power. SMH
