Chalks Submits Plans For Watson Island Sea Plane Base

The developer of a sea plane base has submitted plans to the city of Miami, ahead of a deadline last week.

Chalks submitted one page of preliminary plans. The layout look similar to a presentation made by the company earlier this year which showed a lighthouse style tower that included office, retail and restaurant uses.

Wolfberg Alvarez is the architect.

(renderings are from the presentation earlier this year, only the site plan is new):

It looks like the deformed cousin of the Coliseum in Rome, only with a very excited center. Even for a sea plane base the design is poor.

Who was the architect responsible for this hideous bldg?

UM’s architecture school did this seaplane terminal as a project multiple times, and the students could design better than this piece of crap.

The students did design better projects haha

Dimensions are off. Looks discombobulated. Lighthouse needs to be thicker. Or there needs to be more floors getting consecutively smaller leading up to the lighthouse in a pyramid type shape.

The arches seems to be throwing it off. If you look at the building behind it, it looks proportional. If the arches would fit that, getting smaller and thinner as it goes up, it would look better.

If you’re going to do classical, you better know about proportions. Palladio, help!

This building is so random….the arches make no sense.

The only thing I like about it is that it looks historic.
Now as far as the arches go, it doesn’t fit with the Miami theme.
Maybe in Ancient Mesopotamia it would fit the bill

OMG, it is sooo grotesque…this should be right next to the Hallandale’s ‘Pegasus’ and the thank God disappeared ‘Union of The Worlds’ sculpture (Mary Brickell Village)…..i am forever damaged after seeing this!!!

Wow that thing is real ugly. Looks like we are copying the coliseums lets not be like las Vegas and copy other cities buildings

Apparently, Chalks was looking for a design from 1988 as drawn by a teenager. The Miami Vice episode that ended with baddie Calderon’s death in seaplane explosion would’ve looked great with this… this… thing in the background.

The city of Miami government is attracting the worst male architects around and each one is adamant about having a competition for the tallest phallic symbol they can get away with on Miami’s skyline. And the council seems all too happy to let them.

Ugly. The tower is intended to distract tourists. Designed to sell alcohol. Won’t work. What happened to the planes?

What’s wrong with something different and unique? It’s an island seaplane base for Christs sake, not a downtown office building!

A dog turd is different and unique. Doesn’t mean a building should look like it.

You must be a dog poop connoisseur. Do you have a sample with the lighthouse and Roman arches in your collection?
