CitizenM Miami Worldcenter Submits Proposal For ‘Playful Toy’ Public Artwork

CitizenM Hotels is asking the city of Miami for approval of their plan for exterior artwork at their hotel planned for Miami Worldcenter.

Public artwork is a condition of the hotel’s approval by city planners.

Playful toy sculptures made of fiberglass are proposed as the artwork. The cost is budgeted at $260,000, with design by Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval of FriendsWithYou.

Citizen Miami Worldcenter will include include 351 rooms in 12 stories, with a construction cost estimated by the company at $68 million. CitizenM has already purchased the site at Worldcenter’s Block F East.

Miami’s Art in Public Places Board is scheduled to review the proposal at a May 20 meeting.

First, why would they even waisted money in paying a rendering company to this??? It is such a waste of money when there isn’t anything interesting or at least acceptable to show. I am sure any reviewer could read elevation plans of this ugly puppy without needing a rendering.
Second, what is wrong with Nitin Motwani? It has taken him years to do this project and at the end he is selling land to mediocre investors that the best thing they can do is come out with a 1960 building that does not do anything for the surroundings not to mention his precious MWC. Is he only interested in cashing out??? What about the legacy, and the already aged 80 year old design he is inheriting us?
Next time please don’t sell your dreams or vision just to flip a piece of land; many would love to be in your shoes to make a difference in this city. You have the power, so please commit yourself to do better in the next phases.

When I saw the rendering I thought it is a building from the 60-ties trying to be modernized by some Christmas decorations….

I am not offended by the design of the building as some of you are. However the art is crap, FriendsWithYou can do better.

Can’t believe that this is getting built. Something more original than a box with a bunch of ‘Care Bear’ art would be appreciated. Please!
