City Slaps Lien On Beckham’s Overtown Stadium Site

The city of Miami recorded a lien last week on the 4.2-acre site that David Beckham wants to build a soccer stadium on.

Owner Windsor Investment Holdings LLC was found guilty of violating the following laws:

  • Failure to maintain exterior of commercial or residential property
  • Failure to obtain a sign permit
  • No Certificate of Use
  • Failure to obtain a business tax receipt for the type of business conducted

Windsor was found guilty on December 3, two days after TNM first reported rumors that Beckham was in talks to buy the site. Windsor was ordered to correct the violations by February 4, after which fines accrue at $250 per day. The lien was recorded on March 11.

Beckham cannot close on the 4.2-acre property until the lien has been cleared (which likely won’t be an issue considering the price Beckham is paying.)

Such a nice gesture for the city to welcome and promote this economic development.

Awful site – when the ONLY option in getting close to the stadium is by walking at least five city blocks one way or four city blocks the other way from the metrorail(?), I question its sustainability. Especially in Miami, where walking in some of those areas is a huge security risk for fans in the first place.

Oh no, four blocks?! Also that’s not the only option. If you really cannot walk a couple blocks, get an Uber

But I have a feeling you’re complaining just to complain…or a city official trying to maintain the obsolete car dependence

if the city actually cared about it’s most vulnerable citizens, maybe those neighborhoods wouldnt be such a risk to begin with. when you have fans walking in groups from the metrorail or from downtown, youre not going to have mass robberies if that’s what youre implying. youre part of the problem. you just want to ignore huge swaths of people and areas like they dont exist. the nepotism in miami is the real reason we dont have a waterfront stadium. we can build crappy baysides and give away waterfront to latin real estate moguls for vanity museums but we cant have a soccer stadium? shut up

I agree! This site selection has brought to light a very important issue. There are areas in the core of the City in which people are afraid to walk around alone. That is a huge problem in a major city. The City of Miami needs to do it’s job and make the area safer. I will also point out that the Miami Police headquarters is also in this aerial, just a few blocks away from the site. I think this stadium may force them to clean up their backyard.

I have lived close to this and worked in Overtown and it is a fact it is dangerous to walk it. They have had several murder’s within one block and driveby 3 ither tines in the last 3 years. That is a fact. I got along with the people very well BUT there are a very small percentage that are thr problem. It is sad it is this way.

It’s literally as close to the metrorail station as it is to the I-95 overpass to the east (3 blocks). And there is a second metrorail station just 2 blocks east of I-95 (5 blocks total).

the metrorail is still another two blocks north of the intersection of the East/West Road (10th ST) you see and the road passing the parking lot (7th Ave) – BAD SITE

The metrorail station is THREE blocks from the proposed stadium site? THE HORROR!
