Claim: OMA Needed To Be Taught How To Design Miami Condos (By Arquitectonica)

OMA originally submitted plans for Related Group’s Park Grove condo project that were “hilariously below par,” according to The Architect’s Newspaper.

The initial response to the RFQ included some of Rem Koolhaas’s earliest conceptual housing schemes, since OMA had little experience designing residential. The floor plans came without closets and with kitchens that were too small.

Related brought on a local, condo-experienced architect to help with the plans. The resulting improvements were enough to make the project a success, with Two Park Grove now topped off and One Park Grove to break ground in 2018.

The Park Grove website states that:

On the Park Grove project, OMA consulted with local partner Arquitectonica, an architecture, interior design, and planning firm led by Bernardo Fort-Brescia and Laurinda Spear.
