Committee Wants Rainbow Colored Intersections On Ocean Drive

An upcoming remake of Ocean Drive could become a lot more colorful, at the request of a Miami Beach committee.

The LGBT Business Enhancement Committee is asking for the city to include permanent markers in support of the city’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender residents and employees. Among the possibilities suggested are rainbow colored intersections, crosswalks and street signage.

For now, the plan includes shifting traffic lanes and widening sidewalks after property owners complained about a plan to completely close the street to automotive traffic.

As a gay man i think this is a bit overkill… Maybe they could paint the intersection in front of the palace in rainbow colors. Which they did temporarily for pride but has since faded. But there is no need for ALL of Ocean drive to be rainbows….. I agree with the above post…. It would be tacky….

I’m pretty sure the “LGBT district” on Ocean drive is basically the area around Palace. No one suggested all of Ocean Drive…

The more identify and point out difference the longer discrimination will exists. As long as we have black day, Hispanic day, LGTB day, etc, etc those who want everyone to be seen and treated as the equal go out of their way to point out the very differences they want the world to ignore. And yes, I fall into one of those mentioned categories and still I disagree with the act. smh smh smh

I think the rainbow crosswalks at Ocean and 12th would be very fitting and in no way overkill. I hope to see it someday.

Oh oh sorry, my bad Mr Anonymous, it didnt’ occur to me at first that you were referring to “Black Friday” in November (the biggest shopping day of the year).

That rainbow thing is sooo cliche (and tacky)….with so much design talent in the LGBT community I’m sure they can come up with something more creative. Pink flamingos maybe?

Oh my gosh … NO, NO, NO. ENOUGH with these stupid rainbows. As a gay guy I find them so tacky and so divisive. They seem to turn on a switch so certain gay guys can act like outrageous ghetto trash divas to get attention (I’m sure it will get a label in the new DSM-6 that will come out). To be inclusive in 2014+ you need to not create borders…AND this is butt ugly.

Mr anonymous clearly meant MLK but to make the point more obvious I called it black day. Instead of arguing the reference why not argue the point. At least that way you have something to add to the conversation rather than just ridicule it. And yes, if Xmas day is a holiday all religion days should be holidays. Whatever guys, im the inclusive not exclusive type. I vote for human day and human month. Period

I don’t necessarily think all of Ocean Dr. warrants a giant rainbow theme; however, a fresh coat on the already-existing rainbow crosswalk by the Palace, or perhaps down the block by the Carlyle (site of the fictional “Birdcage” nightclub) would pay homage to the gaiety and diversity of South Beach!

Final point from mr anonymous lol. Maybe this will help you read my post with less judgement. Out of my closest group of 20 friends, most hispanic of course, it is Miami, 2 are gay men in relationships, one chinese, one from the middle east, 2 black (1 LGTB community who also thinks its tacky). So believe you me there is ZERO segregation in my post. And not a Nymby at all, I dont even live in So Beach. Just tired of the labels and, ill repeat in case you missed it in your mockery, the fact that those working so diligently to make us all equal keep throwing the differences on people’s faces. add some value or dont post ppl

“Mr anonymous clearly meant MLK but to make the point more obvious I called it black day. Instead of arguing the reference why not argue the point.”

“Argue the point?” You made it a point to equate MLK day with painting “rainbow colors” on the ground and then deem it intelligent enough to be worthy of logical analysis and philosophical debate?

You appear to be a bit delusional Mr Anonymous.

“Final point from mr anonymous lol. Maybe this will help you read my post with less judgement.”

Sure Mr Anonymous, I wouldn’t want to misconstrue your true intentions.

“Out of my closest group of 20 friends.”

Well you’ve certainly made it quite clear there why you can’t be disputed.

“most hispanic of course, it is Miami, 2 are gay men in relationships, one chinese, one from the middle east, 2 black (1 LGTB community who also thinks its tacky). So believe you me there is ZERO segregation in my post.”

Segregation? I thought you were making a statement about other races flaunting their ethnicity in your face and how fed up with it you are. Afterall you’re the one who wrote: “The more identify and point out difference the longer discrimination will exists.”

That was spoken like a person who’s fed up and has real experience in discriminating to me.

“the fact that those working so diligently to make us all equal keep throwing the differences on people’s faces.”

Well you have to take that up with the creator, he’s the one who put distinguishable features on our faces.

You really don’t think things through thoroughly before you comment, do you Mr Anonymous?
