Construction At 100-Story Waldorf Astoria Surpasses Adjacent Building

Downtown Miami’s under-construction Waldorf Astoria tower is now taller than its neighbor.

The Waldorf Astoria is planned to rise 100 stories, becoming Miami’s first supertall.

Now, the structure of the tower has surpassed that of the 10-story Holiday Inn next door.

A foundation pour for the Waldorf was completed in June, and the tower began rising vertically out of the ground in the following months.

The building will include 387 condos and a five-star hotel with 205 guestrooms and suites.

It is approved by the FAA for a height of 1,040 feet above ground, or 1,049 feet above sea level, which is nearly 200 feet taller than Miami’s current tallest building.

Completion is planned for the second quarter of 2028.

Best is a little of a stretch, but also it is a very subjective matter depending on what you like. I definitely love living in Miami.

As an ex NYer that moved here for the growing tech scene, I must agree. It feels a lot like Manhattan on a smaller scale but it’s growing at a fast pace. But also, it feels more tropical with better weather. The no State or City income taxes are a huge plus for me plus real estate is so much more affordable than NYC, I can live with standards I could never afford in NYC. The food scene is good but lacks variety but I understand that that’s changing too. Overall, Miami is a young city and it’s growing fast so it has all the potential to be the best city! But for me, it’s great enough for now!

It’ll be 90 and humid here just like NYC in July.

July in NYC is not exactly resort style living.

The worst is actually come October, when up north they’re finally getting a reprieve from the heat with the season change, and down here it’s still 94 degrees for another two months.

another 2 months after October–which is December (now) –where is it 94 degrees? The average high in August is less than 94 degrees. You are a jive turkey.

Now that Biscayne is getting all these thousand of apartments with this and many other buildings, isn’t it time to make it more walkable and more shaded??

Yes. 100%. It is the heart of the city and it looks like a wasteland

Wasteland?
The Waldorf Astoria looks like a wasteland?

Yeah…look at the photos at the top of page.

Ferris Wheels, Skyscrapers, colleges, museums, cruise ship ports, and large bayfront marinas are tell-tale signs of all watelands.

??? I always walk along the bayfront and absolutely love it. Sometime those pesky dolphins get noisy, but otherwise, it is a great walk from the PAMM to Brickell.

So far it’s just one box and no cantilever except over the sidewalk.

Its neighbor better be getting shorter, and what I mean by “getting shorter” is getting demolished. It’s insulting how this hotel remains while The Everglades, Columbus, McAllister, and other grand hotels which used to grace Biscayne Boulevard are a fleeting memory.

I don’t understand why beautiful historic buildings are demolished but old ones like the Holiday Inn, the Hyatt on the Miami River, and the Vitas Bldg eye sour at One Bayfront are still there…

What happened to the bars and coffee shops that were supposed to be build across from in in the middle of Biscayne Blvd?

You mean the Supertree knock-offs, and glorified concession stands that looked like they were made out of glass and plywood, all dwarfed by a Metromover flyover anyway? Back to the drawing board please!

Looking forward to seeing Downtown Miami’s very first Supertall building included in its skyline! More Supertall buildings to come to bring that skyline upward, not so sideways anymore.

Miapolis

Wow the storeys are really compact so far (not high ceilings). Maybe it really will have 98 floors. Hopefully at least 90 or 92. It won’t actually have a hundred.

Anon

I’m pretty sure it’s going to have the exact amount of floors as is being marketed lol

Miapolis

There’s only two super-talls in the world that stick to the 10 ft per floor estimate. One is the John Hancock building in Chicago from 1969 and the other is the new Australia 108 in Melbourne Australia. Skyscrapers almost always have high ceilings or large mechanical areas or a spire etc. this 1040 foot building will have 90 to 98 floor plates as shown in the renders. Not 100 and not 104. There’s less than two dozen buildings in the whole world with 100 actual floor plates. And almost all of them are way over 1200 ft high, usually closer to 1500 ft.

Looks great. Please double check the science to make sure it’s not going to sink…. Doesn’t hurt. If I get my drift. And thank you for redeveloping in developed areas because redevelopment is wonderful, development in natural areas and farm areas is not 👍

Oh the tired random stacked box look. I thought every architect had one in their portfolio a decade ago.

It looks awful, but they can still fix it somewhat by making that top “box” less offset from the center.
