Construction Cranes In Miami Not Rated For Winds Above 145MPH

Miami’s construction cranes could pose a danger in a Cat 5 hurricane, city officials are warning.

There are 20 to 25 cranes within city of Miami limits. They are designed to withstand 145 mile per hour winds, but can be dangerous if winds are higher.

Most of the cranes are in Miami’s urban core, which will be subject to evacuation orders in the event of such a strong storm.

Construction sites are already on lockdown, so any activity now is meant to be securing materials.
