Construction Permits Pending For Chiquita Rental Project, Midtown 6

Two rental projects in and adjacent to Midtown Miami with a combined 650 units may be a step closer to beginning work after filing for construction permits.

According to a construction permit filed last month, AMLI Residential will spend $36 million to build 208 rental apartment units in an eight story building on the Chiquita site (the project is restricted in height).

AMLI paid $55 million for the property with fully approved plans in November 2015.

The smaller south phase is being built first, according to the permit application. A second phase will bring the unit count to around 700 apartments.

For Midtown 6, a phased foundation permit is pending. That project will have 447 units in a 31-story tower.

John Moriarty and Associates is listed the contractor for AMLI. James McHugh is the contractor for Midtown 6.

This part of town is booming..however, 2nd Avenue does need Re-paving.

And a bike lane, bad. And even sidewalks at some points.

Practically every road bounded by the Bay, 395, 195 and 95 needs to be repaved…and landscaping.

Will this have an elevated walkway to connect to Midtown (above the tracks)?

I hope it does. Otherwise, unless FEC builds up a (good) fence, people will eventually die. Particularly with either Brightline or Tri-Rail trains running every 15min.

I love Midtown 6. The base evokes classic Miami Art Deco, and the modern tower flows with it.

Some of the windows and balconies of the Chiquita Rental Project buildings (especially the south one) not lined up trying to look cool and edgy look cheap and nasty instead.

Yes. There used to be a Chiquita facility on the land where the apartments are being built.

Is it just me or does Midtown 6 look like it is going to be the nicest rental building in miami. Love the glass and the keystone

I agree! I know AMLI projects in other states, and they build amazing communities. Especially their high rises. Looking forward to this project.

Is Chiquita really going to have that green roof going on? Or is that the amenity deck? It would be nice to actually see more green roofs in Miami, and solar panels…
