Construction Underway On Expansion Of Fontainebleau Resort In Miami Beach

A seven-level expansion of the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach has commenced under construction.

Records show that a foundation permit allowing deep soil mixing was issued in May. Construction equipment has been active on the site for weeks.

The project will include parking, ballroom space, and meeting rooms:

  • Basement level 1 – parking
  • Basement level 2 – parking
  • Ground floor – parking, back of house and loading
  • Level 2 – junior ballroom, pre-function, and meeting rooms
  • Level 3 – meeting rooms, circulation spaces, a commercial kitchen, and a pedestrian bridge connecting the building to the existing Fontainebleau Tresor tower on the north side of the property
  • Level 4 – grand ballroom and pre-assembly spaces
  • Roof level – plans show a roof deck. There will also be planters, the permit says

Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe is the architect.

the black glass is an…interesting choice

The black glass looks inappropriate for Miami and southern Florida. Dark colors work better in the cold north east.

The black glass doesn’t match the rest of the complex!

It certainly doesn’t do any justice to the existing, historical Lapidus’ designed hotel.

Looks dated but ok

I understand that it might look dated but it blends with the Art Deco of Miami Beach. Let’s keep the glass highrises to Miami

1) it does not blend in with Art Deco.
2) the Fontainebleau is miami modern
3) in this rendering 3 elevations are glass
4) it is not a high rise

Sort of late when Collins Avenue is lined with glass and/or balcony-clad high-rises, most built even before Downtown had a glass high-rise.

Like Arquitectonica, NBW was once a decent local architectural powerhouse, but now every other one of their projects is shite. Compare this with the Tresor Tower. SAD!
