CRA Votes To Buy Citizens Bank Building, Plans Mixed-Use Commercial

The Omni CRA has voted to purchase the historic Citizens Bank Building at 1367 N. Miami Ave.

A redevelopment with mixed-use commercial space is planned.

Previously, a residential developer had been in contract to buy the property with a concept for a residential tower overbuild above the historic structure. The deal fell through.

The owner had listed the property for $7 million, and the sales price is $4.5 million.

Great! Hopefully others will follow the CRA’s lead and protect our architectural heritage and historical structures.

I applaud them for doing this and saving part of our history. I am sure others will follow. I am kind of sick of white stucco and green glass.

One of the only properties worth saving on that block.

Perfect example as to why some buildings should be saved and others not. This Citizens Bank was built in 1924 and the architecture is beautiful, once the area is revitalized it would be great to see this become a museum for Overtown.

I always wanted it to be turned into a Gothic Night club 🙁

Would definitely be a good fit for the area.

Excellent. No more overbuilds with stucco lumps crashed into great old buildings like that trash fire on Biscayne and 20-something.

I always drive by there at night and every time I see that building lit with those dim lights pointing down I feel like I am transported to another time, its a nice feeling…there is something special about that building.

Beautiful? just the columns and the impressive color, git to see the inside, but looks like very mediocre old building…

https://www.floridamemory.com/items/show/44100 This link shows what it looked like before someone painted it red and brown. I was a beautiful building and has the potential to be beautiful again.
