Dade Mayor Hopes To Get Billions In Transit Funding After Revoking Sanctuary City Status

Miami-Dade is hoping to get funding to build a mass transit system by removing itself from a list of Sanctuary Cities.

Under a new policy approved by Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the county commission, illegal immigrants who have been jailed for other crimes will be turned over to the federal government for questioning if it is requested. Previously, the county only honored such requests if the feds paid to hold them.

President Trump has publicly praised Miami-Dade’s decision.

Gimenez told Local 10 that the county will now pursue hundreds of millions—“if not billions of dollars” to build a transit system, which played a part in the decision. Trump has threatened to block federal funding to Sanctuary Cities, and some of those funds meant for other cities could now potentially be diverted to Miami.

Local surveys consistently rank traffic as the top concern of local residents, and Gimenez will come out “very popular” if he manages to solve it, according to a Barry University political science professor.

And I hope to marry Emily Ratajkowski.

This is nothing more than a PR ploy by Gimenez. The county was already likely to solicit the Feds for funding on the rail projects and was likely to receive hundreds of millions at some point. This was all already known from the rail story on this site last week. It has nothing to do with Drumpf or sanctuary cities.

This is that new huge Hitachi facility in Dade county(I believe in or close to Medley) that is fabricating the new metro rail trains. I read somewhere that when they presented the new looking trains, County officials wanted a more slightly different look in the front. “Slightly” more bullet shaped nose and a little bit different looking than the original.

It would be cool if they can make them look similar to the Disney monorail train. 🙂

A bullet train nose is ridiculous, considering the point (no pun intended) is for it to be aerodynamic, and with the speed of Metrorail, it’s completely unnecessary, a waste of money, and insulting to the engineers. The proposed trains look great, and I hope they’re equipped with enough security measures to keep bastards from doing graffiti and any other forms of vandalism like ripping the seats.

It’s about time the county gets Federal $
And yes, we need mass transit. Imagine what it will be like in 10 years when our residential population gets an additional 175,000 residents and our tourists fo from 16M to 20M per year…

Who would have thought a county with highest percentage of foreigners will enforce the law of the land? i can tell you, the people who came legally are concerned about the illegals. Does that make them as xenophobic as those native deplorables I’ve been hearing a lot about?

A lot of mistrust and prejudice exists within immigrant communities as well.

In order to protect Americans, the United States must ensure that those admitted to this country do not bear hostile attitudes toward it and its founding principles. The United States cannot, and should not, admit those who do not support the Constitution, or those who would place violent ideologies over American law. In addition, the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry or hatred (including “honor” killings, other forms of violence against women, or the persecution of those who practice religions different from their own) or those who would oppress Americans of any race, gender, or sexual orientation.
