Demolition Continues At 140 West Flagler In Downtown Miami

Demolition is continuing at a 15-story downtown Miami building.

The property is at 140 West Flagler and is owned by Miami-Dade County. The building opened in 1975.

There were said to be structural issues that resulted in the county moving out of the building.

The property will be a part of the upcoming Metrocenter redevelopment planned for the area.

If it’s owned by the county, expect to see a vacant lot for years to come. Either that, or a fixed RFP benefiting certain commissioners while we all get jilted with another box building.

taxpayer needing food × gas station

Great area!!

The Government Center needs to be expanded if this is the situation.

There’s a bus loop just across the street there too that can be updated with trolley route passing by Wharf after coming from 12th Ave and
SW 8th St Brickell Plaza with McDonald’s and CVS.

Now to think about it! Across the street just west of needs a SW 1st St Shopping Center to accommodate current and upcoming traffic with food and gas station including clothing and pharmacy!

This parcel is part of the MetroCenter development. The preliminary plans are publicly available.

It’s going to have a huge Central Park with a library like the one in NYC with the lions 🦁 📚

The whole entire MetroCenter plan is smaller than NYC’s Central Park. You’re full of it! 🤡

The County needs to get more space for Municipal and Federal Government functions.

Too many wasted funds for running light and water with scattered and under-served or utilized government offices via;

SOCIAL SECURITY
CHILDREN&FAMILIES
WORKFORCE
NET
STORAGE
And Other functions for clerks and courts.

Migration to Miami Downtown is definitely a solution to achieving fiscal responsibility by improving service and infrastructure for clients.

No one goes to standalone shopping centers anymore, if you want a lasting positive economic impact you need mixed-use development with residential units.

Everything makes better sense with a mixed-use hotel complimenting a Fresh Market and Walgreen replacing skywalk garage to current library that could be relocated as other bloggers posted.

Northward sw1st street block can possibly add a Circle K gas station and possibly a diner plate restaurant serving the many needs of current transients and upcoming improvements.

Don’t forget about a drive thru joint!

No. Nobody needs or wants a gas station in Brickell or the Government Center, they kill walkability.this sounds like a troll statement.

Make it a pedestrian focused urban Metro Center with culture and lush landscaping and adequate lighting and sidewalks on every block.

As per the released plans for Metrocenter, which are publicly available, the new neighborhood will contain Miami Public Library, a park, and the new History Miami Museum. The development is not waterfront, but is a brief walk from the river.

I’m excited about these features that link to the north side of the Miami River Walk, a border for the new MetroCenter. They are integral to this region and should be connected strategically.

P.S. An immediate requirement is a new bike lane on the SW 2nd Avenue Bridge, connecting Brickell to this area, enabling access to the library from Brickell.

Awesome idea.

Between the bike lane and trolley is the need for looping drivers on Causeway for I-95.

SE 3rd Ave definitely needs causeway loop to I-95.

Trolley and bike lane too.

commissioners need to be invested for improving American Standards within crossroads for better architectural and construction services instead of past personal occults serving the opposition.

No need to catch cabin fever or the itch anymore with all the new features and innovations made for Americans.

Our city sometimes appears to be run by less competent leaders and news broadcasters who prioritize themselves over the City. This could be due to the low voter turnout among immigrants, but as Miami’s new American population grows, we expect a shift towards leaders who better adhere to American standards.

speaking of flagler when is the street construction project going to be done? Isn’t it like 2 years behind schedule? Once all the small businesses are completely forced out?

Post Covid19 construction is going especially well due to Cava and County.

Now the evidence is in to remove deterrents from causing future delays with covid19 interruptions is within the works to prevent such construction project delays.

Covids been done for like 2 years and it barely closed anything down in Miami. Piss poor excuse.

Patience is the piece to current and forecasted methodological construction becoming reality.

The new construction has been built very well and timely considering that post covid19 conditions are still needing to be cleaned.

Ex.

To much mold and other unhealthy matter post covid19.

Relocating School Board next Government Center and courthouses would make room for….I guess a grander Mall that can replace other defunct malls in county in addition to adding new skyliner condo residentials which pose greater benefits than current un-fruitional impotencies causing bide.

Need to relocate and replace defunct and impotencies for better living standards in response to consumer survival and social development.

I remember visiting this building many times with my dad as a kid. I hope they don’t decide to knock down every other building on Flagler older than 30 years.
