Gil Dezer intends to begin construction on a town for millennials in 2021, his representatives told the Biscayne Times.
North Miami Beach up-zoned the Intracoastal Mall property in 2015, allowing for up to 2,000 units along with 2.5 million square feet of nonresidential space, with 495-foot building heights. As part of the deal, Dezer will be required to build new roads.
A city official says that the developer is negotiating a water taxi stop at the property. A high-speed service to downtown is said to be impossible however, due to manatee and sea grass zones.
The developer is also working on the possibility of adding a new canal into the property, to make it more waterfront.
Zyscovich is doing planning for the project.
