Downtown Miami’s Newly Opened The Wharf Draws Thousands

Thousands of Downtown Miami residents have been packing into a newly opened entertainment venue on the Miami River called The Wharf since it opened earlier this month.

The space includes seafood from Garcia’s, food trucks, entertainment, and a bar. There is also a dock for boaters.

For now, it is only open weekends.

In two years, The Wharf property is planned to become a permanent development called Riverside Wharf.

It will include 58,000 square feet of restaurant and entertainment in a $30 million building, in a private-public deal approved by voters last year.

Melo’s troubled Flagler On The River restaurant complex remains unfinished next door.

The should give him the dam variance and make him pay a fine and complete that already. We could of had the first duck and waffle right here in miami and a water front sushi samba…

Why not wait in two years and maybe we’ll get something better taking into account what happens with the Miami Riverside Center, FPL substation, Grand Boulevard scheme, and that ridiculous self storage use of land across the street?

Too bad the walk along the riverwalk from Brickell is littered with homeless people doing drugs and taking $hits. Embarrassing that this is what our waterfront is in this city.

It’s a step in the right direction but plenty more needs to be done no question…

Where are the $7 million in “public improvements” that were promised by Mantecon and Vadell as part of leasing this site from the City? Anyone minding the store? Cheers.

Is the Miami River Yacht Club reopening? They should take a page from this. No one needs $17 drinks when they have to pay 79% of their salary to live in the neighborhood.
