Five-Story Hotel Proposed On Washington Avenue

Another hotel has been proposed on Washington Avenue in South Beach.

Acastar Miami, LLC, which is 100% controlled by Genaro Enrique Gallo, wants to build a 50-room hotel called Bohemian House at 1409-1413 Washington Avenue.

The project would include the restoration of existing historic structures, along with a new five-story addition.

There will be 50 hotel rooms at an average size of 245 square feet, along with retail and mechanical parking.

Miami Beach’s Historic Preservation Board is scheduled to review the proposal on January 9.

Walk around south beach – is there truly a need for more of these boutique style hotels? Hotel Urbanico was just approved for 5th street, and 7 story hotel on 500-600 Washington.

Through zoning and permits, the City should look to push reasonable residential development (thinking the Cosmopolitan building on 2nd and Washington). There is a grand total of about 10 3-br apartments for sale below 40th street under $1m. Bringing more families and residents that will live here has a positive impact on many aspects of Miami Beach.

South Beach could really use a few mainstream hotels… Maybe European tourists don’t mind closet-sized hotel rooms, but most Americans are surprised by the hotels when they arrive here.

Okay, 3, 2, 1, but, it doesn’t belong there and will destroy the look and makeup of Washington Ave….
