Miami International Airport is once again open for business today, although some flights are still cancelled.
As of 6 am this morning, flights from around the U.S. and the world were airborne, heading for MIA. They included flights from London, Paris, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, New York and Los Angeles.
An American Airlines flight from Seattle was first to land at 7:06 am, while an American Airlines flight to Las Vegas was first to depart at 9:05 am.
Tuesday, about 30 percent of flights are expected to operate. The number will increase over the coming days until a full schedule is restored, possibly by the weekend.
The airport clocked wind gusts of nearly 100 mph during Hurricane Irma, and there was significant water damage throughout the terminals (terminal roofs at MIA routinely leak during regular rainstorms).
Fort Lauderdale airport is also expecting to resume flights today.
