Floating Docks Planned At FEC Slip Next To FTX Arena For Yacht Show

The FEC Slip next to FTX Arena will host floating docks for yachts, according to plans filed with the county yesterday.

The plans were submitted to Miami-Dade’s Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) on November 8.

They show temporary floating docks to be in place during the Miami Yacht Show.

According to a letter from the project manager, a total of 38,000 square feet of docks will be installed.

Yachting Promotions, Inc. is listed as the applicant.

Miami commissioners voted in 2019 to study filling in the slip to create more park land.

Nice. Museum Park needs more program and activation. It’s a decent design but mostly just grass and standard concrete paths. Glad to see this multi-million dollar slip if finally being used for something. Would be great to see some bars / restaurants or at the very least pop-ups in the park to further activate and draw more people in.

Definitely agree. A few outdoor cafes would add to the park. And help bring in some revenue for park maintenance. Doesn’t have to be fancy restos, just nice simple spaces. Maybe bring in Star catering who runs Verde at the Perez.

Exactly. There is plenty of empty space in that park to add a little bit more program in. Small cafe, a lunch spot, and an outdoor bar would do wonders for that park. I went to Chicago this weekend for the first time and experienced Millennium Park which is incredible. Part of it’s success is that there are so many *things to do* in the park. Some sort of iconic sculpture (like the bean, or the vessel) would also help

They should turn that building right at the entrance of the park into a restaurant and coffee shop

Isn’t that a Miami Dade pump station? Don’t see how you can easily move or replace that.

They just built a dog park. Hopefully soon we’ll see a kids park and some sports activity spaces

They need more iconic ships in port, bring a military ship in. Have a museum ship in. Why is there no USS Miami??

Something like that would be super cool. New York has one that they turned into a museum on the West Side.

Yeah they already turn alot into artificial reefs around Florida. Might as well anchor one in this inlet and make museum park have more attractions.

In Manhattan, in Harlem there is a military ship turned into a restaurant, permanently parked by the Harlem Pier.

Little by little, events are happening again in the city. And the Boat Show is always fantastic.

They should get rid of the homlēss there first!

I hear you. I go to Museum Park often, however, and it does seem like the situation is *gradually* improving.

I saw that too. Less of them and more families around. It’s probably because of all the new people moving in the area due to the new buildings

Passing an anti-vagrancy ordinance and actually enforcing it helps, too. If you more teeth were added to property management codes (*cough* Mana *cough*).

They are doing it!! Finally the park will smell of grass, trees and flowers instead of urine!

Make it permanent. Get more foot traffic from boat visitors.

Cool, if they’re testing the waters (no pun intended) and surely it will be a success, do it permanently on Watson Island, or even Bayside, which would invigorate the area more than any giant nail clipper and ugly renovation ever could.

Weren’t they going to build wave Miami there? That kind of means it’s been canceled.

What’s Wave Miami? Googled it and found nothing

Wasn’t there rare corals growing in there – hence its underutilization?

Dan Paul Park AKA Parcel B is a 4 acre waterfont park on the south side of the FEC Slip. The Heat promised to renovate it in 1996. Grass, trees, a mini-soccer field. Residents are still waiting. Still waiting…

I took a video last night of the visiting Dominican Tall ship and it is beautiful. Too bad TNM does not allow pics and videos to be posted. But to think that scoundrel Carollo wanted to fill this gorgeous water body and build a hotel there and yet he is still not in jail or run out of town like the rabid dog that he is 🙁
