Florida Legislators Are Preparing A Big Push To Bring Casino Resorts To Miami

Florida’s leading Republican lawmakers are said to be preparing to push for a deal that could finally legalize resorts casinos in Miami.

Former President Trump is involved in the effort, according to the Washington Post.

Also involved: the owner of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Jeffrey Soffer.

Trump wants to open a casino at his resort in Doral, while Soffer wants the Fontainebleau to have a casino.

Governor Ron DeSantis, who has a close relationship with Trump, was set to meet with parimutuel owners this morning who might be hurt by the proposed deal, according to the Herald.

Genting’s Resorts World Miami proposal could also potentially benefit from the legislation, the Herald reported.

As part of the deal, gambling licenses would be permitted to be transferred into areas where casinos are prohibited. Local governments would be barred from prohibiting the casinos by law.

A new deal with the Seminole tribe would also be part of the legislation. Sports betting would be legalized in the state, with the tribe to control most of the market.

I want more arts, theaters and museums in Miami but why not also a casino! We need to grow the city and this could be a good move. One casino won’t turn Miami into Vegas (thank god!) but it will bring more people to it.

However, the real focus of Miami should be better schools, better public transportation and more office space. We need to attract big pharma and tech companies to make Miami a major player in the US and world.

Don’t you realize the only way this is happening is because Trump wants to get back into the casino business in Florida, and Ron DiSantis (mini Trump) , and the Republicans will obey Trump’s desires, or else.

So sad, mini Trump is so focused on following in #45’s footsteps.. fingers crossed he also gets the boot 🥾! Then they can spend all the time they want together in Doral! Or better yet mini T is forced to sit on Ocean drive and deal with all the unmasked tourist he told to come here. Blatant disregard for Floridians health and safety. Done with him… #ByeRon

The only good thing that can come out of this is finally Resort World can build there mega casino. They are a class act. Trump’s casino will fail, just like in Atlantic City. The Trump brand is destroyed and toxic. The Cubans in Hialeah won’t bring much revenue to his Doral Casino.

“The Cubans in Hialeah won’t bring much revenue to his Doral Casino.” 👀👀
Another derogatory and micro aggressions towards the Hispanic community, specially the Cubans “
How are we going to reach equality and equity when people express their inherited racism with comments like this 🤨

Anonymous

God forbid, a Hispanic group that doesn’t vote the way you want it! Also, Trump had the highest minority vote for a president since 1960 and exceeded his lead everywhere he won in 2016…

Also since 1960, he “lost” coincidentally in a handful of metro areas with historically low turnout, suspiciously stopping counts and resuming with Biden taking the lead. But of course, YouTube tells me our election system is foolproof, after hearing a barely Second World Eurasian country hacked Trump into office the last four years. If there was not fraud, where’s the transparency, huh?

Anonymous

Ha!.. that’s funny. So, you mean, with the Secret Service, the CIA,
the FBI, the DEA, local law enforcement, and other investigative entities plus FOX NEWS at his disposal, Trump, after over sixty court hearings, couldn’t produce one shred of evidence of fraud that kept him from being reelected?

No wonder AG William Barr said “I gotta get outta here!”

I think they were mocking senile Joe and his pack of loons who helped burn cities across America last summer, during the free range shopping and peaceful protests.
Maybe they are mocking our fixation on a few gender confused people to the point of destroying our military, women’s sports, culture.
Maybe they are mocking our inability to stop them from stealing our technology, turning our sports into Chinese shoe salesmen, buying our politicians with lucrative family business deals, influencing media companies like Disney with a direct link to our children.
Maybe they are mocking us for destroying our energy sector, allowing our border to turn into a chaotic disaster that will destroy this nation from the inside.
They have plenty of material to work with, thanks Democrat loons!

You know as well as I do that no country (Russia or any other Second World Eurasian country) directly interfered in the elections. No votes were stolen. Voting machines were not hacked. No votes were changed. The interference came in the form of fake social media accounts that posted fake or twisted stories about candidates to misinform our VERY gullible citizenry. And, when the stories fit their particular biases and agenda, my friends and yours reposted the stories as often as possible. It’s amazing what people would believe, as long as it supports their world view. Like the US never landed astronauts on the moon, the Mayan calendar predicted the world would end in 2012, Y2K would doom our way of life and airplanes would fall from the sky, the Earth is really flat, the World Trade attacks were perpetrated by rich Jews, no plane really hit the Pentagon, vaccines make you sick and Trump would become president on March 4th. Give me a break…PLEASE.

Miami could become something like a smaller version of Hong Kong and Macau combined.

Gambling may not be for everyone but casinos bring big music and performance acts that would compliment the Arsht Center and AAA.

If you ever go to Macau, you have to check out House of the Dancing Water. It’s like Cirque de Sole on crack. It has this huge 100ft wide stage that transforms from a solid platform to a 30 ft deep pool in seconds. The performance includes high diving, acrobatics, motocross and a bunch more.

If Miami had proper casinos we could expect shows like that to produced and available to the non-gambling public.

Yes, Miami is ranked as biggish, L.A. and Chicago are ranked as big, NYC is ranked as huge, and places like Mexico City and Shanghai are ranked as humongous.

Let Miami win with a casino!

Anonymous

If any city should have a casino it should be Miami it just make sense based off the fact we’re a party city. Yes I want us to be known for other things as well an have fortune 500 companies moving into downtown. At the same time we have to play off of our strengths, providing entertainment and adding on that!

What’s this infatuation with Fortune 500 companies and being a corporate wage slave? Start a business, do something interesting.

“Start a business, do something interesting”

Yeah.. open a bar that plays salsa music and put a table in there so people can slap down dominoes.. that’ll do it.

Miami will never get out of boredom because of people like this.

The thought of having a Casino never really bothered me.
But for the state to make a law that allows Casino’s in cities; while at the same time prohibiting the actual city the casino is located in, from making their own decisions or laws about it. Is just crazy!
It’s is the definition of governmental over reach.
They would literally be forcing a city, and its residents, to have something they have very strongly fought against ever having.

Anonymous

But you don’t mind these same city government officials telling people how big they can build their house or how tall a developer can build a building?

MiamiArchi

But that’s actually my point.
It’s Your City officials making zoning rules (who you elected to represent your wants).
Not State officials in Tallahassee who have nothing to do with your city making your zoning or other rules.

Anonymous

But, didn’t you write “But for the state to make a law that allows Casino’s in cities; while at the same time prohibiting the actual city the casino is located in, from making their own decisions or laws about it. Is just crazy!?”

My point is, it seems right now you don’t have a problem with those same governmental officials telling the citizens and others what they can’t do!

MiamiArchi

My point is that you elect local officials to represent your interests. Miami beach Residents have in all documentation been very against having a Casino in the city. And they clearly vote for their officials to represent that interest.
So the government is saying you can’t do that because the citizens of the city are asking the government to say exactly that. It why voting in your local elections is SO important.
For the state government to come in and override the interests of the citizens of that city is crazy.

MiamiArchi

My Response doesnt seem to have posted… so I’ll try again

I don’t have a problem with local government officials not allowing casinos because they were voted on by people of that city to vote to represent their wants.

It is very well documented that Miami Beach Residents are overwhelmingly against having a casino in their city. And clearly they vote that way.

That is why voting in your local elections is SOO important. It really has the greatest direct impact on you and your family, property, etc.
The state shouldn’t come in and override you, just because their interests don’t align with what yours.

I will note that this isn’t a Democrat or Republican thing. It’s about respecting the wants of people within their city and how they vote/elect people to meet those desires.

Anonymous

Local government officials cater to what area has the most money because they weld the most power. Areas that have the most wealth have a tendency to have the most votes and the voting percentages drops significantly after that with the poorest voting the least. Voting in local elections will always go the way of who has the most regardless of how it impacts those with the least.

That’s why I’m all for this ban on local government officials telling us how many casinos Miami can and can’t have. The local economy will decide that.

Anonymous

Wrong, government over reach is banning casinos

Anonymous

That’s because Republicans can’t make up their minds. One minute, they want small government, and the next, they want big government. I’ve always been confused about what any of it means.

In reality, Republicans just want government to cater to them.

Get rid of the nasty crowd that is giving a horrendous reputation to Miami and specially😛 to South Beach before getting the casinos

On the other hands…. it’s people believe that the mafia that owns casinos doesn’t like common crime like the one we are seeing in SoBe and they will take care of clean up the city 😂🤣😂 and make it an Art Deco District! 🤓

Anonymous

Um, Miami went through years of a cocaine war. I’m talking about the police finding four to five bodies a day plus shit getting blown up by dynamite in Miami. Comparatively, this common crime in Miami you’re talking about is small stuff to be alarmed over.

To all the people who believe casinos destroy people lives Vegas is a prime example of how much of a lie that is! The casinos practically built Vegas an it has been booming with development and tourism. We know all cities have crime but how often do you hear Vegas in the news? How many stories have you heard about Vegas having a homeless problem? People want you to believe gambling brings all these problems with it. My point is having one or two casinos in Miami will not hurt Miami if anything it will help bring more tourism which helps the locate economy!

Oh well, i guess the beat will continue going on for a flipping burgers and cutting grass type of economy in MiamiDade then.

The greatest inequality that threatens humanity at this time is not economic inequality which, as in times of prosperity, has widened but some kind of spiritual inequality between those who live in the rhythms of the global technological and cultural revolution and those who “consume” on hours daily as important the insignificant daily moments of indifferent people.

It would be good to get some resident shows here, like Vegas has. And a mega-casino / resort can afford to do that. And I’m not sure that is the Fontainebleau. The Genting concepts look more appealing. Go big or go home.
