Florida’s leading Republican lawmakers are said to be preparing to push for a deal that could finally legalize resorts casinos in Miami.
Former President Trump is involved in the effort, according to the Washington Post.
Also involved: the owner of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Jeffrey Soffer.
Trump wants to open a casino at his resort in Doral, while Soffer wants the Fontainebleau to have a casino.
Governor Ron DeSantis, who has a close relationship with Trump, was set to meet with parimutuel owners this morning who might be hurt by the proposed deal, according to the Herald.
Genting’s Resorts World Miami proposal could also potentially benefit from the legislation, the Herald reported.
As part of the deal, gambling licenses would be permitted to be transferred into areas where casinos are prohibited. Local governments would be barred from prohibiting the casinos by law.
A new deal with the Seminole tribe would also be part of the legislation. Sports betting would be legalized in the state, with the tribe to control most of the market.
