Foundation Pour, Vertical Construction Underway At Block 55

The large mixed-use Overtown project known as Block 55 has had a foundation pour.

Vertical construction is underway, with several cranes now installed.

FAA records show that several cranes were recently approved for the site. There will be a total of four cranes installed, according to a social media post by John Longarini.

Photos by Ryan RC Rea last month show that two of the cranes have already been installed.

The foundation pour took place in recent days, Longarini wrote.

Block 55 will include:

  • 578 affordable apartments for seniors
  • 250,000 square feet of retail space
  • 1,050 parking spaces
  • 1,400 square foot police substation

Tenants will include Target (with a Starbucks and CVS inside), an Aldi grocery, Burlington department store, and Ross Dress for Less.

The same distance? You can take the mover and then walk to Target in Midtown. We do it all the time. Not so much to South Beach.

We need a Target in the old Burdine’s/Macy’s space, too. Ross moves stores like changing underwear anyway.

Excited for the Target as I work across the street and can stop by before heading home.

Love the density being added to this area but OT still has a ton of empty lots

Keep up the development in Overtown! We deserve a safe, better connected Urban Core.

TOD with over 1,000 parking spots.

The parking spots are for the Target, not all of the customers will come through the Metro rail and Mover.

Wonderful. Something that is not actually for Overtown.

Do people in Overtown not eat food, wear clothes, or buy household goods? I think its safe to say Aldi, Ross, and Target will be a benefit to the community more so than the corner bodega; which I want to succeed as well (landlord of an Overtown bodega)

With the windows all cluttered, it looks cheap and nasty. Same with balconies. What do you expect from a vertical geriatric ghe++o?
