Frontier Is Making Miami A Base, Will Have 30 Pilots & 100 Flight Attendants While Adding New Routes

Frontier Airlines has big growth plans – and Miami is a key part of those plans, CEO Barry Biffle said today.

The airline plans to double its fleet in the next few years, and Miami is a big part of the company’s growth plans. To help with that growth, Frontier will open a pilot and flight attendant base at MIA in March 2020.

Biffle made the announcement at a press conference at MIA.

There will be 30 pilots and over 100 flight attendants based here when the base opens.

Frontier will also increase the number of routes flown from Miami to 22, behind only American Airlines. Some of the new flights will be to Central America and the Caribbean.

A total of eight new routes are being added from MIA starting in April and May 2020:

  • Austin (three weekly beginning April 23)
  • Islip – Long Island/MacArthur (daily beginning April 23)
  • Ontario, California (daily beginning April 23)
  • Trenton, New Jersey (TTN) (three weekly beginning April 23)
  • Guatemala City (GUA) (four weekly beginning May 10)
  • Santo Domingo (daily beginning May 10)
  • San Salvador (three weekly beginning June 18)

The only negative is that they fly out of the oldest mostly unchanged terminal since 1959

Yet, the newest terminal from 2007 is pretty miserable, and who know how much worse somebody like Arquitectonica can excrete if the Central Terminal is rebuilt.

And how exactly do you propose that we maintain our current level of efficiency while the airport is gone? Our tourism industry would literally implode, that’s why we gotta do it piece by piece a little at a time, it’s the only way to improve without jeapordizing operations

AA is finally on check. But… Frontier pulls out faster than a deadbeat dad… They haven’t gone as far as making Miami a hub but they have come and gone here several times.

That’s certainly good news, but the only completely new route there is Ontario. The others are already served from MIA or FLL. The new jobs are great for the economy.

So they’re just shifting Trenton back to Miami from FLL? They tried this two years ago and it failed so hard that they moved the flight back to FLL.

Frontier has a habit of changing and dropping flights frequently. Time will tell if they quietly cancel all these flights.
