Futuristic New Saudi City ‘Competing With Miami’ Crown Prince Says

Construction is underway on a futuristic city in Saudi Arabia that will compete with Miami – at least in some ways.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in in interview that he wants the new Neom smart city project to match Miami in terms of excitement.

“I have a friend who moved to Miami. In Miami, when you get out from your office, you are on vacation immediately,” the crown prince said. “You are next to entertainment, sport, culture, retail.”

“Each day has to be excitement to finish your work and go and enjoy it in Neom. So we are competing with Miami in that area.”

Neom is planned to be built without any cars, roads, or emissions. High speed rail is planned to be buried underground, with all facilities said to be within a five minute walk.

The excitement about Miami is partying… drinking, drugs and instagram models… good luck replicating that in Saudi Arabia

Miami is not just partying,it has art good restaurants and great events

Decent art… yes, good restaurants… more like overrated, great events… only in the winter

Anon

actually I’d say great restaurants, and a great vibe in the restaurants, Miami has a feeling about it that Saudi Arabia certainly could never, ever capture

As good as it gets

You’re dead wrong. Food and service in Saudia is outstanding.
It’s obvious you have not been there.

Anon

Not commenting on Saudi food, was saying our food is great (not good). Also, it’s the VIBE here that can’t be captured by Saudi Arabia or any other location for that matter, each place has their own.

Miami has that latin vibe to it. Saudi Arabia has an arab vibe. Big difference

What decent art, apart from murals that look like something on an elementary school, and art shows with bananas taped to walls?

Uhhh, Art Basel and the related 100 + gallery pop-ups are the epicenter of the art world in December (and something any city would love to have). If it’s not your thing fine, but u come off very obtuse with your little jokes.

Miami offers much more than just sinful pleasures. It is a thriving haven for art lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, tech dreamers, and entrepreneurs alike. Beyond the surface, Miami provides a wealth of incredible opportunities, cultural activities, and diverse communities that make this city an exceptionally dynamic place to live, work, and grow.

You ever notice the Ocean and Beach and Biscayne Bay? They can be used year round here. But if you’re scared of going shirtless in front of the women….then you can always stay indoors in the AC.

The authenticity of Miami can never be duplicated someplace else. It’s just plain and simple.

Anonymous

Honestly Miami is losing its authenticity. I’m 30 and was born and raised he and it’s definitely doesn’t have the same feel. Somethings are better but I feel there are more changes for the worse

Anon

Agree with you. We know we can’t stop time & progress, and there’s also something great about becoming a world city and the mix of new people, but 20 years ago this place was absolutely amazing, so happy to have experienced it. Biggest loser of authenticity to me is Lincoln Road, the poster child of how to completely ruin something great.

Anonymous

absolutely correct….lincoln road was unique and even fascinating on many levels….its a joke now….and wont ever be the same……but ,downtown has blossomed and is where many intl visitors are going now….so that keeps me somewhat optimistic on our future

What do you think ruined it?
I used to love that place 10 years ago. It felt like you were in Greece or St Tropez with a Latin flare. What happened?

You stopped drinking and got older. There’s places like that all throughout South Florida 🌴

The landlords jacked up all the rents, drove all the local business out, and let Lululemon, Nike, and other corporate sites move in to make it like any other boring mall setting.

I was in St. Tropez on vacation this week. I have a hard time Miami ever resembled such an iconic and classy destination as that, but then again I have only been here 10 years.

Miami feels many times better, safer, and more dynamic than just 20 years ago. What you’re talking about is the explosion in cost of living and lack of middle-income housing options which is making everything feel like either Dubai or Haiti. A real city needs something in-between for blue color workers to be able to afford and grow.

We need to address the existing imbalance in our urban environment by focusing on the creation of better public infrastructure for streets and sidewalks, as well as larger-scale community developments around metro rail and mover stops. It is essential that both luxury areas and their surroundings receive equal attention and maintenance. Currently, there is a lack of options in the middle entry-level luxury market, with an overabundance of both poorly constructed buildings and ultra-luxurious developments. Instead of solely catering to affordability or high-end exclusivity, we should strive for well-designed community spaces that offer attainable luxury, enhancing the overall quality of public life. By filling this gap, we can foster a more inclusive and balanced urban environment.

No what I am talking about is actually more Americans moving here watering down our culture. Miami has been a beautiful mix of Latin American and the Caribbean and our cultures. In the words of bad bunny ahora todos quieren ser Latino pero les falta sazon

Anonymous

Americans have been residents of this city since its founding, and Miami proudly stands as a melting pot of cultures from around the world. Latin American, Caribbean, European, Indian, Middle Eastern, Asian, and many other diverse cultural influences contribute to the vibrant fabric of our city. People come to Miami to be a part of the American dream. In no way does the effort to improve our streets, sidewalks, and public landscaping have anything to do with ethnicity. On the contrary, these initiatives aim to enhance the quality of life for all residents who call Miami their full-time home, regardless of their cultural background.

First off it’s blue collar and I don’t understand your compassion with Dubai and Haiti. I can’t comment on Haiti because I’ve never been but Dubai has options for all pockets. The Deira area, which is my favorite, is full of excellent economic hotels and restaurants.

As much as I would love to live in a car free city, I’d much rather live in Miami with its alcohol and women than some Saudi city with no alcohol, no strip clubs, no music, no legal sex outside marriage, etc.

It’s going to take e a lot more than that. Miami’s happens to be in the USA. And Neom happens to be in Saudi Arabia, which has pretty questionable laws. Unless they’re going to rework their laws and government, then this isn’t even a competition. Instead of copying Miami, Neom should have it own flavor and uniqueness to it, like Miami has.

Anonymous

We get it, Saudi Arabia has bad laws. Not like ours are very good at the Federal level either, and also tend to be ignored by the fist-bumper in chief…

The powers that be are trying to change Miami… Miami at some point may not be the party city it used to be! They are already trying to turn South Beach into a family friendly destination… “Hey kids and grandma would you guys like to go down to South Beach and play Cornhole?”

Anonymous

Let’s hope they succeed! Miami needs to look to Fort Lauderdale and how it cleaned itself up. We can still have party areas, but we need to cater to a larger portion of the population than just the coked out 20 somethings living here on daddy’s money.

What ruined Miami is the same thing that made it great, all the Latin people with their carelessness, tardiness, inability to assimilate(without having to loose their identity) lack of sense of belonging. The rudeness in this town is unparalleled, the idea of being polite in Miami is to apologize for being rude. My recent Uber driver went like “I’m sorry for not helping with your luggage”, a patient of mine went like “doctor worry for being on the phone. It is comical.
I’m Latino by the way.
