Miami-Dade commissioners say there are reports that Cuban spies have attempted to learn confidential security information about Miami International Airport.
Airport management doesn’t believe the reports to be credible.
Nevertheless, commissioners Esteban Bovo and Rebecca Sosa have called for an investigation, and sponsored legislation to initiate a security assessment at the airport.
The spies may be attempting to subvert or disrupt operations at the airport, the commissioners say. Security practices at Miami International Airport should be studied for vulnerabilities, they added, and a report delivered to them.
A resolution calling for the investigation was passed by the county’s Tourism and the Ports Committee last week, and the full commission will vote on the investigation next week.
