Here’s What The Interior Of A Miami Beach Streetcar Could Look Like

Connect Miami Beach, one of three teams bidding to build a light rail system in South beach, has posted renderings of the interior and exterior of their streetcar would look like:

The cars would be manufactured by CAF of Spain, which says they have been used successfully in other rainy and high-humidity climates such as Taiwan.

Other members of the Connect Miami Beach include Spain’s OHL, one of the world’s largest contractors, and infrastructure lender Globalvia, also based in Spain.

The city is hosting a series of public workshops about the streetcar project over the next few days.

This is great. And Buy America compliant. This is huge for future federal funding needed to connect to downtown Miami!

I like how the cars are all articulated and open and not separate compartments.

America had street cars in every city but we gained an massive interstate system. Go to your rotten western europe. And yes I said western europe because you wouldn’t make it in eastern europe.

The consultants thought that people South of Fifth would be against the project which is why it’s run across 5th street not down to South Pointe.

I would like to think that nothing will happen with high tides and flooding but the science is against that way of thinking. Grudgingly, I would have to agree with Dany. Yes it looks great but it should be built like the metro rail or even the metro mover, high above the ground. This may work out for our generation but the one after and the one after them will have to deal with a lot of problems.

As a Miami Beach resident I attended the streetcar public deliberations today and was disgusted by Mayor Philip Levine’s crony, “Miami Beach Resident” selection committee member and former Senator Dan Gelber, who was quoted saying “Buy America is not a Game Changer”. Is he for real? Apparently the French are bribing the two of them.
